You could earn stars after giving advice to people on the forum, more advice you gave the more stars.
I dont know why it stopped but someone will have an answer for you.

We stopped using the star system because human nature being what it is, it caused upset and arguments.
The system does still exist as it forms part of the structure which allows members access to the site and its features. However, that is all it is there for and the stars are generally hidden from view.
The only star that matters for most people is the second one which enables the pm system and entry to the Beach forum.
