Latest Greek weather forecast says we might get force nine winds in Corfu later today. Is it time to tie everything down and batten down the hatches? I noticed all the Greeks close to us in our village are starting to close their shutters, although the sun is currently shining... Today is the National independence day, so the parades in town could be exciting in this wind.

We got caught in a horrendous storm at Skipero yesterday, the roads were lethal with hailstones turning them into a skid pan, and we saw electricity cables giving off sparks and blue light as the high wind broke them off the insulators. It was quite frightening.

On our return to Kontokali there was a car completely upside down facing the wrong way on the carriageway... how did he manage that on his own???

I thought we already had force 9 gales this morning. It certainly seemed that way. As you say, all the shutters in the village are closed.

Hi

F8 = Gale (39 46 MPH)
F9 = Severe gale (47 - 54 MPH)
F10 = Storm (55 - 63 MPH)
F11 = Violent storm (64 - 72 MPH)
F12 = Hurricane

Forcast wind speed is the average (or roughly constant)
wind speed measured at 10 metres above ground, but gusts might be two strengths above this.

Sounds very much as if it's going to get a bit hairy!

We actually had a lovely afternoon here in Peroulades..... sat outside for coffee most of the afternoon!!

Did get a bit chilly later on though, and now it is raining again....... but we didn't get any nasty gales.

Well, it seems all calm this evening. Although the local Kafenion was less than calm - hey Graham?
