Wow, that was a stormy night.
Hope that you are all OK and no flooding or structural problems.
Was great to see the rain but the wind we could have done without.
Still, it did show up a couple of window leaks that can now be rectified, again.
Still more rain required tho' so no sunbathing for a while but can now get on with a few jobs that need doing.

A bit scary, to say the least, and I have been used to those storms for c.40 years, as we were flying back last night. Arrived at the airport about 2000 hours to find it in total darkness and total chaos! Really scary thunder and lightning all around. Poor staff had been there all day with flight delays since lunchtime - long before the bad weather hit. Jet2 diverted to Brindisi and loads of other delays but somehow our Monarch Manchester flight arrived more or less on time at 2130. No aircon in the departures lounge even after the power came back on. Staff on the check-outs in Duty Free being fanned by other staff. A day from hell for everyone and an extra night on Corfu for some. We had a hairy first hour on the flight but made it back just 30 minutes late so were really lucky. Hats off to all the poor reps and staff at the airport though - they did more than their best in awful circumstances.

The storms seem to have carried on into this morning here in the south - got stuck at a cafe in Argirades for 45 minutes with the jeep on the other side of the road but a river between us and it!!.

Still, no watering of the garden for a few days and a chance now that the ground is softer to get some stakes in the ground to hold up some of the taller plants.

There's always a positive isn't there.
Sun will be out again soon...hopefully.

I flew Athens to Corfu on Monday evening, we landed at 8pm and the aircraft had a real job to stop before we plopped into the sea!!! No joke! The whole of Town had a power out just as we began descending for landing. The flight was bumpy and I stopped counting the lightning strikes after 10 and closed my blind on the plane window.

I've flown that route for 13 years, winter and summer but that was without a doubt the worst.
But in the safe hands of Aegean we made it in one piece.

Hi bluebell,
Same here in the NW, power and water went off at approximately 8pm on Monday night, well water was a bit iffy all day, so no phone or internet access. Power came on again at 5.30pm on Tuesday but was very sporadic so again no internet access or phone. Managed to read a whole book on Tuesday as there wasn't really anything else to do.
Again today, the power and water have been sporadic, but at least managed to get one load of washing done.
Fingers crossed, but it seems to have settled down for the last couple of hours.
We can only hope!

Hi John,
Fully intend to in the very near future. It's too hot to do any real hard work in the summer heat!!!

Well, I had a wonderful end to my birthday on the 19th after visiting Vidos Island in the day! Got ready and headed down to the beach in Agios Gordios to see amazing fork lightening. Then thunder then the rain started. All the plastic protective sheeting we up in the tavernas. We had just ordered our meal when the power went out, leaving the whole of Agios in darkness, apart from the Aquis hotel which must have its own generator. There then followed the most amazing lightening show - I called it nature's fireworks - most of the night! No rain or thunder, just rain. The whole beach was lit up! We eventually ate our meal by candlelight - very romantic - but we and another couple were the only ones there! I guess it was good for the crops but not for tourists venturing out! Anyway, it made a spectacular end to my birthday and I shall remember it for a long time!

I also now know what residents mean when they say the weather can be different in different parts of the island - we spent the next day at Liapades where the rain was torrential but Agios Gordios didn't have any!!!
