Just 2 practical questions concerning property tax.
1) Does it come in same format as electricity bill?
2) If bank does automatic payment for electricity, is this than also automatic for the property tax since it's the electricity company who's issuing the bill?
Thanks in advance if someone could give an answer.
Don't want to come next time in a house were electricity is cut.
Many Thanks from a house owner who isn't on the island.

It is not a separate bill that is issued; you will still get just the one normal electricity bill document but now the property tax is just an extra element added into it. The bill lists all the breakdown parts of the electricity sum to pay, with one element called 'property tax', and you pay the grant total.
You do need to be sure that, if you do pay your electricity bill by automatic bank transfer, that there is no top limit on the sum that can be taken from your account. Because, at the advice of many banks, when some people set up their auto payment system, they put a ceiling limit of say 100 euros on the amount that could be taken.
But now this is causing trouble because, with this tax, the bills are now more than that 100 euros. So the bank auto system rejects making the payment. And the banks are now telling people they must visit in person to their bank to increase the top limits.

The government will grant struggling consumers more time to pay emergency property taxes on their electricity bills, it has been announced.
Under the new rules, the Public Power Corporation (DEI) will now wait 80 days – double the previous period – before disconnection orders are issued on overdue accounts.
The move was announced amid growing criticism over the winter disconnection threat facing households and difficulties facing the government to cope with a flood of exemption claims.
The tax is being levied through electricity bills, a method that has been described by the ombudsman as "particularly odious," while European Commission officials have also been notified of the measure by Greek MEPs.
Ilias Plaskovitis, general secretary at the finance ministry, said no homes would be disconnected until three-member exemption committees had been set up at every Greek municipality. The committees are likely to include tax officials and social workers.
Plaskovitis told private Antenna television that businesses vulnerable to the new tax – including warehouses and parking garages – were also eligible for partial exemptions. (Athens News/gw)

Thank you Varvara for the feedback.
Bank limits for automatic payments are indeed fixed standard quite low in Greece but I changed the limit during our visit 3 weeks ago.

Steve - is this lower amount because the property isn't habitable?
The standard calculation for the tax for properties on Corfu is 3 euro per square meter, based on the meterage shown on your electricity bill. For instance, my place is 62m2 so my tax bill is 186 euros, which is split over 2 payment of 93 euros each - one payable with my current bill, the other half on the next bill. I would have thought yours would be 330 euros if your square meterage is 110...
PS, not saying you're wrong, just intrigued as I've been told by a number of people including my lawyer that the 3 euro per square meter is the standard throughout Corfu.
