We had our house built in 2003/4 an have been filing tax returns every year since then. The new regulations about pools came in a couple of years ago - so we have been transferring money to cover the (daft) 11,500 Euro to show we can maintain it!!

We USED to provide pink slips to show we had sent money from the UK - Now we get a letter from FBB which we have to request in January every year to show that we have transferred enough money.

We do have a car so we had to get an "Aliens Card" and they want to see how much you have in your Corfu bank account too - think it was 750 Euros each.

It does seem to change each year - but we have good accountants (I think) and would be happy to pass on any info - do PM me.
Good Luck!
Denise

I applied for an Aliens card last week at Paleo police station and the requirements were:- two photos of bank book showing 350 euros minimum, two photos of passport, two photos of EHIC card and 4 photographs.

Hi Denisew,
I believe from our accountant that the tax rules for pools changed for 2010 - it is no longer 11600 euros for any pool over 25 sqm, it now applies to all pools at the rate of 100 euro per sqm, so a 25 sqm pool is deemed now to be 2500 euro pa income.
Best,
BB.

Well it certainly seems that those who should know the tax rules either do not know or are guessing at best! We bought our land around 5 and a half years ago and the following year filed a Tax return via our accountant, when asked the question if we need to have one filed each year because it is just land his answer was a clear NO!! So many of you have said you have to file one for a building but only one person has said yes to land also? Does anyone really know the Tax rules on this issue?

Hi Dave and Kerry,
The deemed income for property (not land) I understand is rated per sq m, ranging from 30 euro per sqm up to 300 per sqm depending on the overall sqm of the property. Up to 80sqm it is 30 euro psqm, and for the largest properties, over 300 sqm it is 300 euros psqm.
I do not have any knowledge of the tax rules for land. Perhaps the best solution would be to ask at the tax office if you are prepared to queue?
Best,
BB.

Hi Alison, when we got our aliens card we took bank books but they didnt want to look at them nor did they ask for Ethic cards and I dont think the Ethic card covers you if you are resident in Corfu , but would be pleased to know if I am wrong. Sorry we missed you this time ...

Hi Bunty 1 - I think the goal posts change whoever you get at the time. Sorry I missed you but Ian is still there so don't be surprised if you see him in Boulis

We have lived here since November 2007. I have worked every summer since then and had IKA paid for me by my employers and have claimed IKA every winter since 2009.

Admittedly, didn't file a tax return until 2009, paid the fines, but have never had to pay any tax.

However, just got our tax form back and we have to pay 350 euros. It has been explained that we have at some point declared that we have a "representative" acting for us and therefore they are judging that we do not live here full time. They are taxing us on a lower threshold for part-time residents, even though they can surely see that by claiming IKA for the last 2 winters, we both have health books etc.

We are unable to appeal, so have to pay the tax and then remove the "representative" from out tax status for next year. Not even sure who the "representative" is. I can only think it was when we got our tax numbers we were not living here at the time and mentioned that we had a lawyer acting for us.

Hi all, UPDATE to the post.

On August 8th I went to see my accountant as promised.

Hello, do you remember me? I bought a property in Pelekas 5 years ago.

Yes, what can I do for you?

I have been told that I need to submit a tax form every year but you told me that after the original purchase I did not have to submit any more?

OK, let me see. The first year 2007 we did. 2008 and 2009 we don't need to. 2010 they changed the law so we have to do one for 2010 and 2011.
2012 they have changed the law again so I will have to look into it.
Can I have your mobile number and I will call you in a couple of days.
Thank you, Goodbye.

September 20th, No phone call, now, very confused!!!

Changing accountant comes to mind!

Will tell you what happens when I come back in October.

Stevie.

Oh Stevie you do make me laugh! Have you tried getting a residency permit yet? We needed to as we wanted to buy a small car to save on rental.
