has anyone found any where to buy creosote on the island or a simalar substance to treat wooden posts.

We bought something similar at the hardware shop on the way to the small Lidls (near the airport)it was a German make. Have thrown the can so I can't give you the name but remember that I thought it was more expensive than UK.

been trying to find out if tanalised posts are available - no luck so far - just get advised to dip in tar........ be grateful if anyone knows where can get tanalised (pressure treated) posts.

There's a really good wood yard on the Lefkimi Road. It's on the left hand said, just past the turning for Pelekas going from the airport. They sell all kinds of wood stain there.

I have looked for Creosote on several occassions without any success. I have bought several "equivalents" but these are not effective in terms of killing off wood degrading fungi that are already there in the wood. Might be ok for protecting wood that is not yet infected, I do not really know for sure . And these so called equivalents do do have same strong odour or colour as creosote and are thinner So, probably bringing some out is the answer if you have wood that is already infected?

The wood yard just south of Sidari sells tanalised wood as well as what looks like bright green sprayed on product.

As far as coal tar creosote itself is concerned because of its carcinogenic nature its use was severely restricted by the EU back in 2001 by way of Directive 2001/90/EC. This limits the sale of creosote to professional users only and severely restricts where the treated wood may be used. Apparently there used to be a Creosote Council in the UK , but following the EU Directive it was dissolved in 2002.
So I would imagine that it must be virtually impossible to find in the UK now too. I believe that there are still products that are called creosote, but I imagine they are not what they used to be.
