This is a message from Harry via Hilary's computer.

Terry Tsoukalas has resigned from his position on the Committee of the Corfu Heritage Foundation due to recent controversy about the work of the Foundation. In his resignation statement, Mr Tsoukalas, who has a real estate agency in Acharavi, said that he feared his business would suffer due to his involvement with the Foundation.
Several other members have gone underground for fear of reprisals.
The Foundation is looking for solutions, and will be consulting its solicitors later today (29/11).
None of the property agents are supporting the work of the Foundation. Three years ago a major article was published in the Telegraph about preserving the old houses of Corfu. This article prompted huge interest in Corfu; in fact, it initiated the current trend for buying and restoring old properties on the island. Since this trend started, several people have taken advantage of it and set up business as estate agents, all on the back of the heritage issue. But as soon as heritage DOES become an issue, they all turn their backs and only think of their own interest.
Harry Tsoukalas
President, Corfu Heritage Foundation

BLAH BLAH BLAH solicitors BLAH BLAH BLAH foundation BLAH BLAH BLAH

reprisals BLAH BLAH BLAH resignations.............

I feel this is all becoming quite tedious now. Previously this board was to promote CORFU & give information to people who were looking to have holidays on this wonderful island!

Cut the politics please!

Couldn't agree more!!!!

One question though, if Harry has a computer, why dosn't he post messages himself, or is a bit put off by the PM facillity? Not that I'd be the slightest bit interested in PMing him.

Why do you think I said a few days ago, get rid of them off the site, they are the ones using it for political reasons. Of course members will retaliate, that is what a forum is about.

Regarding Harrys post via Hilarys computer. When the foundation was set up orginally, the actual Corfiots were not interested (Harrys words in his CHF breif) because they wanted to forget about old Corfu, the wars, the politics, etc, in particular the older Corfiots. The younger ones wanted to move with the times and build and buy newer properties. So he asked the British, and other European countries to come on to Corfu, that should not give them the right to dictate though. Now his brother has left.

With Respect to the Site

Hi folks

Have to disagree with you. From my viewpoint and correct me if I'm wrong,  the site has several forums in which to post, one of them being ;-

Greek life - Non travel Greek related topics including owning or buying property in Greece.

The Greek life forum has been useful to me and I am sure to many others even if people previously providing useful info. now choose not to do so; if I want to find out how many knives are provided in such an apartment or where you can get good Yorkshire puds then I can look in another forum on the site.

If it is not important for you  to know who is who, who is doing what, red or yellow roof tiles etc then don't visit that thread. I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of this latest arguement but the more information I am given the better will be my own interpretation (assuming I have an interest), many of the comments have certainly illuminated and changed my thoughts on the character of those making the posts for the better and for the worst.

So live and let live, keep the posts coming, those able to do so will always shoot themselves in the foot, those able to make decisions on the evidence provided will do so, those that can't - well it doesn't matter then does it.

Ian

For once I have to agree with Ian

I am very interested in this topic, as I hope to renovate my own property out there. Although I have absolutely no desire for red roof tiles (unless I was buying a property in Aghios Mattheos where it seems to be the norm!!) I would like to know what is and isn't permitted.

In the article on Corfu News website about the setting up of the Heritage Foundation it stated there would be a website set up for people to obtain information. I have searched on google, and the only reference to the Corfu Heritage Foundation is on this CTG site and corfu news. If such a website does exist I'm sure it would be very helpful.

Unfortunately the amount of speculation and ill feeling has come from the lack of hard facts, and until the facts are known then the wrangling is bound to continue.

My biggest worry is that people visiting this site and others will be put off coming to corfu, to live or on holiday.  However, that said, the people living here and visiting this site have a right to view the ongoing discussions.

It will be nice to put all this behind us and let people see the true nature of the people and the Island.

Before we can do that we need the answers to the questions that have repeatably been put to H + H. (and through a forum now we know that Harry can respond)

Why are you threating people (another example on another site)?

Is it against the law to have red roof tiles?

Is it against the law to cut down an olive tree?

Why are you victimising an English couple?

I was in broad agreement with what I thought was the aims of CHF but using it as a vehicle to push your own agenda or business interests? is just not on.

I'm sorry that the matter is causing a rift between family members but the sooner answers are forthcoming the sooner we can all get back to normal.

Now that Harry has resigned is there anyone actually in the heritage foundation?  I have been reading with interest all the different posts about this topic, are there actually any corfoits involved in this foundation? I think that it is good to have advice about renovating properties sympathetically with other properties on the island and any advice is helpful for those of us who want to do this. From what I have been reading, I wonder how many forum members actually live on Corfu, I'm getting a little confused about it all.  I can see that both Harry and Hilary must be worried about the effect all this may have on their business but does all this make them bad agents? Are they ripping people off, taking money off people for their own ends? I'm sure there must be people who have been happy with the service they are trying to provide. Has anyone got anything to say in their favour?
