Recently I have been hearing of a bear sanctuary which is supposed to be here on Corfu. Seems the bears are rescued and brought here for rehabilitation. Does anyone know anything about this or is it just another of the silly stories that get spread around?

I have never heard anything like that Millie and I am certain we would have done as we have so many animal welfare contacts. Unless the whole thing is very hush-hush indeed! However, a small island is rather like a village: not many secrets!

I haven't heard of a bear sanctuary here. However there is the Arcturos Bear Sanctuary which is located near a villaged called Nympheon in northern Greece.
There is a village in north Corfu called Nymfes. Perhaps someone has confused the two? Below is a link to the Greek Embassy site page which gives some more infor on the Arcturos Sanctuary.
Thanks Julia, Rocky and Bill. I think it must be right that someone has confused the two names I thought it must be either wrong or another story going round. thanks for the link to the Embassy will have a look at it

Viv, I'm not sure if they are being bred there, they are near the orphanage near Magoulades village, they are huge though, they look well cared for, and seem to have enough space to roam around, a bizzare thing to come across when out for a walk!
