Hi everyone

We know this has been mentioned before, but could anyone give us some details of the routes they have used when driving to Corfu from the UK.

Thankyou very much

Hi Tinkers,

Here are some links that might help you in your quest to drive to Corfu. There are many threads on this subject also, which you may be able to find more by typing in "Drive to Corfu", in the search box, at the top left corner of the pages. I hope this helps you. If you need anymore help please let me know.

Best Wishes.

Hi Tinkers

Done it loads of times but many years ago so sorry info. might be out of date.

Depends if your wanting slow and easy or fast and furious I  suppose.

Get across channel then two alternatives

1 - French way, nice scenery steady away to South of France avoiding toll motorways if you want down to southy of France, cross into Italy, along coast route (very scenic mountain tunnels etc).

2- German way, faster Autobahns, motorway juctions confusing, Austria Switzerland - nice

Once in Italy (North East or North West choice of 2 routes -

1. Former Yugoslavia, dodgy when we did it (just before war so we went through in one day with hardly a stop), think it's better now. Take scenic coastal route or faster motorway almost all way down through Macedonia.

2. Take ferry to Corfu from Italy - Venice, Ancona or from South Italy, Bari., Brindisi. Fantastic ferries, like a mini cruise and relatively cheap - dolphins, flying fish good cheap food.

Watch out for Mafiosa in South Italy (serious but no offense to Italians, certainly no offense to Mafia ), weve had a boat nicked, passports gone, car broken into on different occasions and many people we know have had similar experiences. Not a problem if you keep an eye on your stuff.

As I say things might and probably will have changed but enjoy your trip because the journey is just as important as the destination if not more so.

Regards

Ian

We took the scenic route in 1998 - took us 3 weeks to get there! went down western edge of France then across the south, through Cote d'Azur, into Italy, down to Piza & Rome, then across to Brindisi.  Would like to echo the comment from Ecotrails about watching your stuff in Brindisi.  We were on a motorbike loaded up with gear, and the Italian lady who sold us our tickets for the ferry warned us not to leave the bike unattended for a minute as cars and bikes get stolen quite regularly.  We stopped for a drink & a snack just outside the main port area where it was a bit quieter, and there were gangs of chaps cruising past in cars eyeing us up.  Very uncomfortable.  We'd probably have been better going to a cafe right on the harbour front.

We went from Brindisi to Corfu & had a cabin & agree it was lovely, like a little cruise.  and what a fantastic feeling it is when the little man knocks your door at 0500 (we had a night ferry) and shouts "CORFU"!!!!!

Hi

I'm sure I've posted this info before, but we take a fast route from Calais, via Reims, Strasbourg, Basle, Milan and then on to Ancona for the ferry.  Driving time is 13 - 16 hours, but it is Motorway all the way.

If time is important, it probably isn't woth driving down to Brindisi as the ferries from there take 10 hours (ish) plus the extra driving time, whereas the ferries from Ancona take about 15 hours and from Venice, about 20.

We prefer the Ancona sailing as the ferry (Minoan) leaves at 5pm (with a two hour check in) rather than Venice as there is more driving time available on the day of sailing as the Venice ferry leaves at about 12 (again, with a two hour check in).

Check in is very different to the cross channel system - you need to go to the ferry agents office and confirm your arrival - in Ancona you join the queue for the ferry and then walk back to the offices, which is about 200 yards away..

Hope this helps.

Martyn
