I posted the following a few days ago at the end of the post entitled "new mums and dads needed".  Sadly there was no response to it, but at this time of year especially with so many puppies and kittens about I wasn't entirely surprised.

Sorry to backtrack on this one, but the saga of the soggy puppies (see earlier posts on this thread) has come back to haunt us!  Cheryl from CARE kindly took them in, but the mother is also now roaming the area.

She is hanging around near Sue house, meaning Sue is unable to let her own two pups out. To make matters worse, today the dog killed a lamb and is in danger of being shot.  The farmer also mistakenly thought that Sue owned her dog so things are a little fraught for her too!

Please, please, please can anyone help out.  She's a lovely little thing, a slightly shaggy looking terrier type (hence the lamb incident), she's very friendly towards humans and seems to understand English instructions (apart from go away).  Sue is at her wits end, Cheryl can't help and unless the dog is moved soon it will be an ex-dog.

I know stories like this are replicated throughout the island on an all to regular basis, but if there is anyone reading this who could home a small terrier bitch please pm me asap.

Sometimes though stories like this can have a happy ending...

Yesterday the little dog injured another sheep and we though that that would mean she'd definitely seen her last full moon.  The sheep belonged to a Greek lady who agreed that a stop had to be put to the dog's activities.  However, she doesn't own a gun, so instead she has adopted it herself and has taken it home with her, well away from her sheep, where it will be well looked after and loved.

Restores my faith in human nature!

That was a kind gesture restoring my faith in the goodness of human nature!

I don't know how many sheep farmers in the UK would do the same in those circumstances...

I am so pleased, Bill.  I did actually respond to your initial post, about 3 times in fact, but each time had to clear the box!

hi Bill , great to read, regarding the little dog It is lovely to here a happy ending.

We lost our old dog, just after we arrived here, I vowed no more animals , no more heartache......soon after a puppy was thrown under our car one windy wet night....... then a scruffy bitch gave birth on our balcony...two more puppies...... the bitch died the following day.. we hand reared the pups, and our vow of no more dogs faded into obscurity

My constant worry is that these dogs will outlive me, then what////// the animal problem seems insolvable on the island, I understand how you must have felt regarding the little dog, god bless you both, and the lady farmer with the kind heart

Having been delighted to post this thread yesterday, I now sadly I have another update.

Little dog died last night, but at least she did so in the warm on a sofa in the comfort of her new home.  There is no question of her being "helped along the way", we think it quite simply was that she had probably been ill for some time, but living rough no one had realised.  At least she is out of her misery now.

Oh that is such a shame, Bill - but as you say, at least the little dog was in a warm, dry, safe environment.

They break your heart, don't they?
