Are there any good furniture shops in Corfu? We need to furnish a 3 bedroomed villa and could do with some advice.

Is it better to do IKEA Athens, furnish from local shops or ship in from the UK. I have also heard there are furniture shops in Patras?

Hi Heron

We have found it easier to buy furniture from the small local suppliers in Corfu. What area are you in?

All we did was ask the locals, after all, they have to furnish their houses too.

They have some furniture in stock, but also catalogues which you can order from.

They seem to be cheaper than Corfu town and if you buy more than one thing they tend to give a good discount.

The biggest problem we had was finding some of these places as they do not have big shop windows as in the U.K.

As I said before, use the locals knowledge, they are invaluable.

One word of warning, they may not speak English in all these outlets (well after all they are Greek).

hi there,

lots of furniture outlets , more each year no problem,but would advise you to bring your light fittings from uk, we found these extreemly expensive here.

Any favourite stuff you may have in good condition, then bring it. we brought several items,ie welsh dresser, desk, coffee tables, and boxes of items we had collected over the years, we used Mondile from Enfield, but that was 3 years ago, many more people transporting goods nowadays almost monthly , door to door

Its great fun furnishing your new home ,take your time, dont buy in haste

Thanks Ellie May and Cannock Girl. Our place is in Agios Georgios North are there any outlets there. Is most of the furniture readily available as we will only have 2 weeks during the Easter hols to do what we need to do.

Failing this does anyone have the contact details for the nice white van man?

If this is during the Greek Easter holiday you will probably struggle to get everything. When we first tried to buy all our things it was Easter and what a supprise we got. Not much open for days on end and those that were open did no deliveries for easter week. As it's the beginning of the season most shops seem to have run out of stock and everything had to be ordered. Even light switches and fittings are in short suppy at this time of year.

There's a new furniture shop opened this year near Alepou. It's on the right hand side heading towards the Ropa Valley. Not sure what it's like though, haven't been in but looks quite big from the outside.

Hi everyone

This is my first contact in over 3 months, and i'm just getting back into Corfu Mode, you say that it's cheaper to buy the light fittings at home (england), does this mean that the wiring on them is compatible with Corfu standards, is it easy to wire them up. Also as we will be over during the school Easter Holidays (mid April) would it be advisable to bring our fridge out, of buy when we get there, will it work there.

If you're up against time I'd definately advise to get your stuff in UK and ship it. We did buy all our light fittings in Corfu and found them quite reasonable the only thing is that a lot of them had to be ordered from Athens so go as early as you can into your trip so they arrive before you depart. They took about 5 days to come. You may find this is the case with a lot of things bought locally as the shops don't stock everything.

We brought 14 light fittings with us, only two needed slight ajustment, the electrical shop at Platanus did it for us , and would,nt charge me either, we spend lots there though outside lighting etc, ongoing

they reframed all my pictures too, i took canvases out of the frames in uk, and posted them to myself in sidari
