Hiya, we were looking at Corfu on Google earth and we decided to print off a photo of the area past Kassiopi. Yesterday we travelled by car and turned off towards Avalaki beach, it is a lot quieter on the island and not many people on the beach, we parked up and then made our way to the end of the bay.

We walked into a wooded area which was very dark and damp, as we have had thunderstorms this week, we heard some talking and saw a dog, with a collar, so we knew its owners must be nearby. We then came across a lady and gentleman who turned out to be French, and they were foraging for edible mushrooms, they had collected quite a few and showed us the type so we made a mental note of where to collect another time. We carried on through the wood and came out to the little bay beyond Avlaki. There was only one man scuber diving otherwise it was deserted. The sea was crystal and very blue green and with the dark green woodland surrounding it, looked so lush. We then turned onto another track which took us inland, it was a path well used by a riding stables, which I think is quite nearby.

The path wound up and around and eventually we looked down onto another stunning beach, I can't find the name on the proper map but it has a lake the other side of the beach, It was gorgeous, the sea was really blue and the beach really white. We'll go down there another time, probably make a barbcue, thats what is so nice, off season, when its still warm, bottle of wine, cooling in the sea, lovely!!

Anyway we retraced our steps and found a tortoise ambling across the path so we picked him up and placed him out of danger and he trundled off into the woods.

We felt so happy after our walk, totally refreshing and nice to discover another little bit of this beautiful island, and nice to use google earth to give us a map of where to go. I can't wait for my side of the island to become clear as there are lots of routes for us to discover here yet.

The beach with the small lake behind it is Sinies, which is the name for the whole general area, but also for that particular beach. It is usually choc-a-bloc in summer with caique boats and BBQ's in the afternoons.

And, yes, that whole area is beautiful for walking nand you feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere, especially this time of year.
