I have recently seen in one of our big local DIY store a heater/air con/dehumidifier all in one, at what I think is a very good price (not that I have looked around) and I was thinking of getting one to bring out, but they are a little big (about the size of a fridge) and I wondered is anyone had seen them for sale in Corfu?

We borrowed a DeLongi "all in one" portable unit from a friend recently.  Apparently (although this is hearsay and may be inaccurate) it was bought here about 3 years ago and cost around 1700 euros.  The same supplier still stocks them.  If these are available it's likely that other makes will be too.  So yes, you can get them here, but probably at a far higher cost that the one you saw.

Out of interest, we've now had 2 wall mounted air con/heater units fitted.    Total cost including installation was under 1000 euros and they heat/cool our approx 75sqm of floorspace (on 3 levels) no problem.

Whilst not dehumidifiers, the heat is dry so helps stave off the damp, and they have the benefits of not taking up space (the one we borrowed was, as you described, about the size of a small fridge), not having pipes that have to be hung out of windows, and not needing regular checks on the water canisters.

Hope this helps.

Yes thanks Bill, I think the price was £249 so a lot cheaper, but the reason I was thinking of bring it was that we are only renting and the house may not have air con/heating and because we would be renting I would not like to fork out for permanent installation for a property that is not mine

Cheers

Darren

Good point.  Under the circumstances it sounds like bringing one over is the best solution.   - You could probably sell it on at a profit in due course if you found you didn't need it!!

Rocky and Bill, does the heater give out sufficient warmth on the air-con/heater unit in the winter?

Hi km

For us yes, no problem.  The temperature variance is from 16 to 30 degrees centigrade.  Our only additional heating is a mobile calor gas heater, just for emergencies and power cuts.  However, we do live in an old house (thick stone walls) on a narrow street, with houses opposite, to either side and the rear of our property so we are quite well sheltered from the elements.

There is a company that rents aircon units to people in Corfu.  There is somebody that i was chatting to in the chat rooms late one night, that is moving to corfu and buying the company. I cant remember who it is off of the top of my head, but someone on the site will know. i think they generally rent to tour companys etc.
