I have just come across a new (well, to me anyway) website that seems to give a huge amount of useful information for people living in Greece or dealing with Greek Authorities or Services.

The English-language version is found here but there are also versions in Greek, French and German as well.

If anyone else uses it, please let us know if you thought it was useful and (perhaps more important) accurate.

I've had a quick look and following on from what has been said in another post regarding Permanent Residence Certificate it says as follows :-

Application

    * The application may be processed through Citizen Service Centres

Competent service
          Relevant Municipality or Community
Supporting documents

    *

      a. Application form / solemn statement (available at relevant agency and Citizen’s Service Centres)

      b. The applicant’s ID Card.

      c. A copy of the electricity (PPC) and telephone (OTE) bills.

      d. Copies of the applicant’s tax returns for 2 years.

Cost : Free of Charge

Or have I got it wrong and Iam thinking of a temporary one, because as far as I know you have to register with in 3 months yet this is asking for the last 2 years tax returns?

As explained in the other thread, Residence Permits are no longer required as they have been replaced with a much simpler Registration Certificate.

It looks like the KEP site just hasn't been updated with the new legislation yet.

I see, so it is referring to the old permanent residency permit then, just got me a little confused ( though that does not take a lot of doing lol) when it said to bring 2 years tax returns and I was thinking how can you do this if you have only been there for 3 month.

Cheers Darren

I have just re-checked the article in the Athens News that gave the information about Residence Permits no longer being required and it says:

To register, EU citizens are required to submit the following documents:

  • a valid identity card or passport; and
  • confirmation of engagement from the applicant's employer or a certificate of employment or proof that they are self-employed.

Those who are not active in the labour market will only need to submit proof of medical insurance and that they have sufficient monetary resources for themselves and their family.

The registration certificate should be issued on the spot. It is also free of charge.

The article doesn't make any mention of having to have tax certificates but, thinking about it, I wonder whether applicants might be asked for these as "proof that they are self-employed"?

I guess we will have to wait until a few more people have been through the process before we can get a good idea of exactly what is required in every scenario.

Stuart...

I will let you know how easy (or not) it is when we go over in November.

Oooh good - a guineapig!!  LOL

Graham said he went for his one earlier this year and it was pretty straightforward so, hopefully, they haven't managed to complicate it again since then.

Oh Stuart....

Can`t I be something cuter than a guineapig! lol

If it is a simple as it sounds it will be a miracle.... but it would be great to be able to get it all sorted swiftly and be able to go and buy our car.
