Hello all,

I wonder if you can help. If people have no real address, ie post gets delivered to Cafe/Bar etc how do you organise Electricity and House insurance for a house. Surely you have to give a specific address to get this ?

Hope some of you fine people can help me on this one.

Many thanks

BeeBee

You can pay your electricity through your greek bank account wish they would do the same with the water bills...Oh Dear! I've just remember that hope I don;t get cut off again......

Anyway.....I have seen people on recite of there electric bill paying it back to the post office in Kassiopi...they seem to know when it due...
....I know what you mean and the same thing happen to me I was so confuse about the address things but once you settle yourself in you become more content with the Greek people ways of do things...It's us we are so used to being labeled with everything ...out of that system we become disorganized, ....lol

It sounds like you have electricity.  I can recommend someone if you need insurance though.

Beebee, you could draw a rough map of where your house is and take that to the DEH offices in Alepou.  That is how we had our mattresses delivered.  You do get used to not having an address, it is other people who find it odd but I am sure there are parts of the UK where things are just as delightfully vague still.

Of course, that can also be frustrating at times, lol!

Bills always come through OK .............. these ARE 'official' addresses that we have, although it may not seem like it!

They do often arrive rather late though - after they are 'supposed' to be paid - so maybe set something up with the bank as Rosanne suggests - or we use the the internet to pay everyone..........saves the possibility of being cut-off!

I may be wrong (what a surprise ) but I seem to remember that each electricity meter was individually numbered.  I wonder if the DEH office has a register of all the meters and is able to locate the precise location that way?

Yes, that is correct - all meters have a code number - which also appears on the bills............they obviously have this on a computer somewhere too!

Every 2nd bill is 'read' ........... a man comes around & manually reads the meter, and every other bill in between is an estimate.
