Can anyone help with this problem. We are not receiving water constantly, now we know there is water in the village, we have tracked the piping (all of 1000m of it to the house) we briefly had some for an hour then nothing.

I understand we will need a compressor however we have no electricity! Can anyone offer a temporary solution as it's driving me mad not being able to flush the toilet and have a shower in my own house!

By the way we are in Magoulades. Many thanks

If it's anything like the mains water in our village..........they just switch it off when they feel like it during the summer to conserve water.

I personally used to fill up loads of bowls in the late evening (when we had water), and leave them on the veranda to warm in the sun to use for showering!!

The only solution may be to get a tank fitted to store your own water or drill a well.

I live just outside of Karousades and during the summer months (and quiet often the winter too) we have frequent water cuts. I generally don't have water most evenings from around 7pm until around 11pm - tonight it still hasn't come back on and I didn't have water for most of yesterday, it drives me up the wall!!! For us, because we are on a different water main from main village and because there are less of us using it they cut us off to refill the reservoir for the village!!! Perhaps you might have the same problem? Do you normally have water during the day?

You should go to the Kinotita office for your village and demand that something be done about it, after all you pay water rates!! I'm afraid I don't know where the Kinotita office for Magoulades is, but I suspect it will be Velonades (although it could be our one in the village here, I don't know how big the catchment area is).

I hope this helps a bit

Hi...The only way round this is to throw money at the problem....

You need to put in some kind of water storage ... like a big water tank with a ball cock so you can fill it when you do have water..on the end of it you put a pump to supply the house from the tank. (Imagine a UK loft tank with a pump on the end) will cost a bit but its the only real answer..

jeremy

PS Check thet someone is not shutting of the supply to your place to ensure their supply...........!

Hi my neighbour's done this, but the only problem with that is that when the water goes off, I have to tell her so that she doesn't use up the tank putting the washing on and watering the plants. She ends up in the same boat but later than me Do you mean a really big tank?

Our best solution is my father-in-law!!! Last year we had no water for 9 DAYS!!! I kept going to the Kinotita, my neighbour went, my neighbors parents went etc. Nothing!!! My F-I-L decided enough was enough and went and shouted very, very loudly (think they heard him in Kavoulouri) our water was back on within 10mins!! I could hire him out couldn't I!!!

I've often thought about ringing ANT1 and telling them, they are always showing items about villagers with no water for like 6hrs, maybe we could disgrace the council into doing something!!!

Unfortunately though water has to come from somewhere and if it does not rain there is no water and they really do not have any choice but to cut it off for some time, Can you imagine if it does not rain for the rest of the summer, where will the water come from? Its not helping either that we have so many fires, although the planes use sea water i think that the firemen take from the hydrants that use mains water?? Most people that have water tanks get them filled up by trucks when they empty - where the trucks get the water from i don't know! Anyway it is unfortunately a big problem but one that cannot really be controlled.

Thank you all so much for replying so quickly. We made a huge discovery this morning and that someone had cut our water pipe from the mains and took all the connections!!

We saw a man on the road and asked if he knew anything about it and he said yes... he had done this as we can't take water from there. As to why, we do not know however he showed us where we should be connecting it and told us that in 1 hour someone will come and fix the problem as the pipe has to be dug up. This was at 9:30 this morning and yet we still don't have water and the pipe is still not attached, maybe later tonight I will be able to flush my toilet for the first time!!

Thank goodness for the breeze today.

Belair - Have you got a water permit for the house? That might be why you aren't connected?

Eleni K - I wouldn't have a problem with the water being cut off if it happened to everyone, but we pay the same rates as everyone else in the village but it's just us that get cut off. It happens when they fill the swimming pools in May too. Maybe swimming pools should be banned Hopefully we'll get some rain!!

When we lived in a rented villa in Paleo, we often got water cuts that lasted for two or three hours in the early afternoon and evening.

One day, I was taking a shower when the water stopped completely. I had to rinse off with bottled water.

My husband then discovered our neighbour still had water. They had tapped into the supply to our villa some ten years earlier (backhander to the workmen!) and were syphoning off the villas water. It stopped completely at our place when they had all the taps open to water their garden.

The owner of our place had been paying for their water supply for over ten years....

We now own our own house in Sinarades. Part of the reason for buying it was the sterna under the house (water tank) of over 28 cubic metres. No doubt it will come in handy one day, it replaces the mains water for washing and the boiler. Because the tank is regularly sealed and checked there is no damp in the house.

Since we moved to Sinarades, the mains water has only been off twice in nine months, and both times we were notified in advance that all the water pipes were being cleaned on that day. There is fresh drinking water, free for collection, from pipes in the village.

I am all for swimming pools being banned :) We have free water from the tap in Kassiopi too, most people use this for cooking but it is drinkable as well. We are very lucky that we have a well in our garden that is connected to the house, it has not run dry in 100 years so hopefully we will always be OK. The office that i work in however runs from municipality water and 2wks ago they cut the water of from 8am till 8pm everyday for 10 days, not fun! I also know from all the houses that we rent where i work that we have had major problems this summer with water, usually though it is the whole area that gets cut off so i can understand your frustration if it is only your house.
