Hi Sharlie

A gentle word of advice here - do not buy a UK plated car in Greece. Under the law which allows visitors to take their car into another country (UK to Greece, for example) it is a condition that the car must not be sold or offered for sale whilst in the foriegn country (unless local taxes have been paid and it is locally registered).  Failure to comply will render the car liable to seizure by the local authorities.

I was about to say something along those lines!!    Beware of British-plated cars - I'm sure many people will gladly sell you one very cheaply just to off-load the vehicle..... but you'd be illegal.

What sort of price are you looking to pay? Second hand cars are pretty expensive here. You don't say whereabouts you live, but there is a second-hand car lot on the road between Roda and Acharavi. I saw an old skoda there for €1500. As I said used cars aren't cheap!!

Hi SLD,

The €1500 for the old skoda, was that the price I would have to pay or would that be the sum the dealer gave me to take it away..

Bruce

PS ..Sorry CTG Skoda owners..

This might be a silly question, is it because an english car has the driving wheel on the right? At the moment I live in Germany and wonder if I were to buy a left hand drive car here would I still be stumped for tax in Corfu should I take it over......

and yes SLD, Bruce's salad DOES look yummy!

Hi Michelleandlee

Bringing a car from another country means you still have to pay the Greek tax  it makes no difference if it's right or left hand drive. You can take your car in for up to 6 months with no tax but your car must leave Corfu after that time or pay the tax. The tax is high on a newish car but goes down depending on the age of your car.

Have looked at all the replies and I can't see how anyone can tell where the car has been bought.

If you buy a car from someone who is British presumably they will have the log book and it can just be transferred to the new owner at a UK address and then sent on to Corfu.
