Hi,we will be in the north east from Easter to June with our 11 yr old son and would like to have some private greek lessons-we're complete beginners! Does anyone know of a lovely person who could help us? Patience and a sense of humour is probably required too! Many thanks for your help.

Hi,

I don't know about private lessons, although I'm sure you will find someone if you ask around when you get there.

I have just bought the computer Rosetta Stone course and I am very pleased with it.  It goes from beginning lessons to quite an advanced level.  You may enjoy this system as it has pictures which makes learning easier and various ways to test yourself.  I thought I would mention this in case you are interested in learning a bit before you go.

Hi Carolena, Where can I buy this Rosetta Stone course, I find it hard going learning Greek and unless I write it down or visualise it does not sink in? Cheers Denise

Hi Baywatcher

Have you thought about going to college?I enrolled for a year a couple of years ago and it cost me £80.As you are retired you may get a concession. Also accompanying the course was a book and a couple of tapes.Greek Language and People taken from a BBC series that was on years ago.

try Amazon uk or a bookstore should stock it.Good luck

Hi JanW, Unfortunately the college is 23 miles and does not have greek lessons in their brochure, our local school only does things like Pilates,Welsh and IT. So its back to the CD and books I have which are a help but its slow going perhaps I may get a second hand one on Ebay? Cheers Denise

Hi Denise,

I don't know which books and CDs you already have but i am currently working my way through the Linguaphone PDQ Greek which is a book and 4 CDs.  Got it from Amazon for about £20 (a lot cheaper than Rosetta stone!!!)

I've also done Elisabeth Smiths "One day Greek" which teaches you enough to get by on holiday.  That was available for £2.99 through Greece magazine a while ago.

I promised to learn some greek for next time we visit Agios Gordios not thinking we would be going back there this year but we will be there in june so i need to get my skates on!

Love the picture on the avatar.  Your sister is very lucky to be able to look at that view!

Ms Babs and I enrolled at our local college to do a six month course, cost £120.00 each.

Its a challenge I must say it may be the best £120 I have spent or the worst, my feeling is the latter, as it does not start until 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm that may not be batd I hear you all say.

BUT, I am up for work at 4.30 am everyday

Hope you find what you are seeking, good luck

Bernie
