I have been looking at properties in and around Lefkimmi for a long time now, for a holiday retreat and hopefully one day to live in.

I have come across  one property which is an old olive press which is in need of restoration (its a wreck).

I would like to know if you can do the work yourself or if there is a law where's that you have to let a local company or builder do the work.

I am a joiner and all my family are in the building trade so i think it would be a great project.

I also have a lot of friends in lefkimmi (greek and albanian) so it would be great for me.

Yes you can. However you will need a renovation license and plans drawn up to show what you propose to do.

But as well as useing your family and friends to help, you will gain umpteen "Browny" points by employing some local trades people from one of the family groups in your area.

Ask the neighbours.

Bob.
