Hello to all of you experienced residents of Corfu !!!

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Daniel and Sylvie from the Netherlands. Actually Sylvie is from Germany, but in day-to-day life we speak English with each other, as both of us have an international background. We are planning to move to Corfu in spring 2007, and will soon be coming over to view a number of properties, within a range of 25 km from Corfu Town.

We still have a lot to learn about buying property and living on Corfu, and we would love to draw from your experience. To persuade you into this, we invite you for a dinner on Nov. 17 or 18, in a taverna or restaurant of your choice.

Are you a resident couple with lots of experience to share? Then please email us at d.blom(replace with an 'at')chello.nl with the preferred date, and name and addresss of the place where you would like to meet.

We really look forward to hearing from you!

Just to reconfirm, we offer a free dinner in your favorite taverna or restaurant on Corfu, Nov.17 or 18, in exchange for cheerful conversation and some practical advice on buying a property and living on Corfu.

Hi Daniel & Sylvie and welcome to the CTG.

I noticed this post a few days ago and also note that it has gone unanswered.

You do not need to "persuade" anyone here with the offer of a meal.  The members of this site are very pleased to assist in all things Corfu.

If you have anything specific that you would like to ask, please feel free, I have no doubt that the members will soon be flooding in with all manner of advice for you.

I do hope you enjoy this site, why not do a search for a topic that interests you, you may find some of the queries you have, have already been covered.

Hi Angie,

Yes we do enjoy the site very much and are already taking a lot of valuable information from it.  We'll certainly post loads of questions, once we get closer to realizing our plans. When nobody accepts our invitation we'll do that sooner (sometimes threatening helps).

But if "We don't know what we don't know",  we can't ask questions about it, can we?  We're hoping an evening of lively conversation will bring up just what we don't know. And who knows, maybe this way we get to know our first friends on Corfu, you know!

Mind you, we received some email reactions already, but not yet from permanent residents. Whit the discussion going now, we're confident some permrezzies will accept the invitation. Thanks for helping with that.

Daniel & Sylvie

Hi there,

I wish you well with meeting site members who are already resident in our beloved Corfu.

My family and I will be resident from October next year. Do you have an area in mind that you would prefer to locate to?

P.S. chuck in a case of Mythos and you will be fighting them off!

I wish you well in your endeavours.

Graham,

The first three days we will be staying in one of the properties we're viewing, near Benitses. Yes, our methods are a bit unorthodox , but we thought the best way to get to know a property is by living in it.

For the last three days we had a similar arrangement, but that property got sold just a week ago. Now I guess we will be looking for a hotel in Corfu Town, once we're on the island.

But we will be having a car, just name the place where you want to dine.

Angie and all,

I love Mythos, without it a dinner is not complete. And wine, and ouzo, and......

Daniel

Hi Angie,

I forgot to answer your other question. One of the objectives of our trip next week is to determine our area preferences. For the time being we think in a range of 25 km from Corfu Town, but if a great property shows up outside that range, we may reconsider. Next week we will be looking at properties in Agii Deka, Pelekas, Agiou Markos, Acharavi, one just south of Corfu Town, and maybe one near Ponti.  Comments on those area's are very welcome.

Where will you be settling?

From the thousands of postings in this forum we know, there are many many people with very interesting stories to tell about living on Corfu. Yet, it seems most residents hibernate  off season, quite reluctant to go out.

Please reconsider accepting our invitation, if only to prove Corfu is truly not a dull place, out of season .  Both dates are still open, we promise it will be  fun!

..I know what you are saying but until you are more known to people on this site and they get to know who you are ...I am sure they would quite be happy to except your very kind invitation...But like you are saying you need to meet up with ex pats which you are finding hard to do at the moment..As it would be nice to talk about Corfu over dinner and have a few drinks and find out more information about this wonderful island and for the information that you are after to help you in finding a place over there as i would....I can assure you they are not hibernating they are just a bit weary as to getting to know you I'm sure..And i can assure you they are there as i know a dozen or so my self that are living there living there and having property's built..moseley of this site that i have met and became very friendly with in the years i have been on this site ...But unable to tell you as i my self live in England and its there private policy for me not to say who they are and where they live on the island to which i do....I can tell you there are a lot living in the north east of the island, my self would be intent in finding a property in that part of the island my self knowing how beautiful it is around that area....Hope i have been a bit helpful for you and try to explain some of the circumstances that you may accrue in people responding back to you...Chris

P.S..If you are travailing up to the north of the island at all....Just pop in to Ipsos and see if the Vice Roy restaurant is open its on the left as you come into ipsos from the Dasia end.... as a very nice English couple own it and they may be open....You can but try....

PPS...There is also the British bull dog up in Roda that will be open this time of year...A chap called Rob run's this Bar Ex English guy(A very nice chap) and would also help you with any questions that you would like to ask about the North east of the island..And also ex pats meet up in there for a game of darts and a sing song...As a few of the people that i know of as well mite be there..I am sure that if you introduce your self on what you are looking for they should be able to help you.....This is the best i can do for you to possibly meet up with ex pats that are living there..As i do regard there privecy.....Yours Chris...
