me & my family want to move to corfu as my youngest son has downs syndrome & is very ill in the winter months, we want to give him a better life in the warmth.

i have 2 older children (12 & 14) i have no problems finding schools for them it my youngest (10) im having the trouble with finding a shool that caiters for delayed & learning disabilities.

my son can do most things a 6 year old can do although having 2 older brothers is an advantage as he copies every thing they do even the naughty things.

if any body can give me any info it would be so much appreciated.....

Hi

I am afraid I have not heard of any schools like that on Corfu.  That, of course, doesn't mean there are any, you just don't get to hear about them.

Corfu can be very cold and damp in Winter, I hope that won't be a problem for your son?

I really hope everything works out for you.

Julia

Hi

As Julia says it is very damp and cold in the winter although it is a shorter winter than over here, but still make sure you have adequate heating.  i have not heard of any special needs schools in Corfu but maybe I just don't know about them.  How do your older children feel about going into a school where they don't know the language?

Good luck.

hi km

my older boys are looking forward to our new life & fine about greek schools they can speak greek alittle enough to get by.

although the winters are damp & cold its not for long & even in our summers my son has other problems, but as soon as we come to corfu hes like a total new person he seems to be more happy & relaxed with his inner self. i know that sounds really silly, but its an instant change with no problems.

thank you for your reply

Not really. Of all the people who tell me that they are going back to the UK to live at least half of them say they are going back as they can't stand another winter here. I think it is the damp that makes the differance. Most shops etc have their windows and doors open in the middle of winter to let air in so the heating dosn't work so is mostly switched off. Although it is warmer here you feel colder and heating is expensive.

Kalimera Karol

Corfu town is too cold and damp in winter for your child. I recomment Crete which has a warm climate even in winter and there are many schools and institutions for children with special needs.

Hi Karol

I just wanted to say that there is a special needs school here, I dont know exactly where but it should be easy enough to find out. Yes it is cold and damp sometimes but in between it is sunny and glorious! It really can't be worse than the UK winters.

You will have to weigh it up and do what you feel is right

Wish you all the best
