Many many thanks Mike, we are going to research this a lot more and our worst case scenario is to bring our car over for 6 months to at least get us here, and then bring it back to the UK and sell it, fly back and buy a car in Corfu.

I cannot thank everyone enough for all the useful information that we are getting from this site!!!

After lots of should we shouldn't we, at last we have decided to try and import our little MX5 to Corfu. We have nearly been put off several times by all the paperwork etc and did not relish the thought of spending a day in London but we went yesterday.

The Greek Embassy was extremely busy, we waited for 2 1/2 hours, up at 5.30am no breakfast, got into London at 10am and went straight there so by 1pm we were flagging. When we eventually got to see the lady that does the certificate it was all plain sailing, we had all the correct paperwork as we had phoned before we went. The only hiccup was that our driving licences are the old type and they wanted the little card with the photo on but they let it go and we now have the certificate.

If anyone wants to know about paperwork requirments we can now tell you.

Hi Angela ,

Great news , you can now have your baby on Corfu....lol

We sold our car yesterday and will use the money to buy a 4x4 out there . In hindsight our car was too low on the ground for the roads out there and had expensive [ shcnitzer] alloy wheels , it would have been ruined after a few months .

Best wishes...John

The 'baby' is also very low but we had no difficulty with it in June, the roads that we need to travel are all very good now, 10 years ago it would have been a different matter.

We got caught out only once and we were going to the Panorama restaurant from Kendroma but on the wrong road, only 2 to choose from and we got the wrong one, also it was early evening and we had the roof off and got dozens of big green grasshoppers things in the car with us, Michael said it was my bright green dress that attracted them. Scary, didn't like it one bit.

Do you have your EEC approval certificate for your car ?

I did not have one when I moved to Corfu and I was unable to get my car imported or re-registered until I obtained one.

We won't get out of our drive without a 4x4....lol

We intend to see as much of the island as we can and have purposefully left that side of things until we are out there permanently . We intend to buy a scooter for running about and town visits [ parking ]

Trust Mike to blame you for the invasion of grasshoppers......John
