I've used one of these cards called SAT which, as you say, seems very cheap, however, I've always found the line quality to be very poor with it but if I dial direct with OTE the quality is perfect.  Could it be that the OTE exchange recognises the free phone number (807 2659) and reduces line quality because they don't like the competition?

Dave.

No, it is a VoIP service, like 'skype'. It is cheaper but the call quality is often lower.

We use these cards all the time. There are several brands available but they are all about the same price. Of course using the internet to make phone calls can have problems at the moment as people who do large downloads can cause little hits but I am sure that in ten years time everyone will be using it. Remember that if you have broadband and someone else anywhere in the world has broadband you can talk to them for as long as you want, at any time of day or night, for free. The quality may not be as good but at that price who can afford not to use it.
