Hello All

Hope you can help,I have been looking at the prices of washing machines/dish washers in Corfu town and comparing with prices here in London and the comparison is  notable to say the least. Examples are 750e compared to £300 per average unit.

Who of you have had to make the dicision and what choice have you made and more importantly WHY.

I would reall appreciate as many comments as possible

Regards

Dave A

Dishwashers in particular are very expensive in Greece but that was the only white goods I brought out with the furniture from the UK.

Everything else such as washing machine, fridge, freezer etc I bought at Expert in Corfu Town but stick with someone like Bosch if you can and avoid the cheaper Greek makes.

Regards.

we scaned the shops over in Corfu and the white goods at Expert seemed the best ,pricewise and choice .

The only prob was they seem only to have cookers with one oven and the grill was in there as well .

a friend of ours  said they do not do double ovens in Corfu .

We will be buying our white goods this August from Expert ,which is if I remember is on the main road in to Corfu from paleo past the main lights at the juntion for the harbour heading for the airport .it's on the left .

I think !!!

I bought a washing machine form the Uk and one word of warning - UK machines seem to be plumbed in using both hot and cold water supply whereas the local machines only use cold water. So if you do bring one over from the UK you need to make sure both hot and cold supply is available.

We only bought very basic white goods, as we aren't in Corfu full time, but stuck to known makes such as Candy. deLongi and Indesit.  One thing that I did notice was the the quick wash option on many machines was much better than in the UK - ours is 32 at up to 40degrees.  We go our stuff from Diellas.

We are in the the boat as you, that is we will not be there for any long periods of time so we are also opting for the cheaper models. Has anyone else made that dicision and has it proved to be a faulse economy i.e have the cheaper brands proved to be unreliable.

Hi, I have noted all you have been saying about white goods. I presume from some of the replies that UK white goods will work in Corfu. Is this right>

We just bought an Ariston washing machine from Electro Net in Corfu Town. Ariston is made by Indesit; most of the machines we saw had been made in Italy, whatever the brand. I don't know if this applies to machines to be used elsewhere in the island, but we were advised not to choose an expensive model because the hard water in the town shortens the life of all of them. For me a major selling feature was that it came with an instruction booklet in English, because I have to learn to use a very different type of machine than we have in Canada. I'm used to three temperatures and two speeds; this one was one of the simpler models and still it seems to have a gazillion permutations from heavy to 'handwash.'

I've only used my new machine a few times so far, but it seems to perform well. I must say it it very efficient in that it doesn't use very much water.
