You can't fill a SORN out anymore when taking the car abroad if you don't want to pay the road tax.You would have to export it and then re-import it when you bring it back which is very expensive.  Also my insurance company assures me that my insurance is invalid if the car is not taxed and MOTed. This has all come into play since the recent new goverment car tax computer was introduced.

It is also now not possible to insure your car in Greece.

Another thing to watch out for is that most companies now only insure you for up to 4 weeks abroad and you have to pay extra after that. The only company I found that gives unlimited time abroad is Saga and you have to be 50+ to insure with them.

Hi Graham,T

Thanks for the info, i didn't know that i wouldn't be able to fill in a SORN, i thought i would do that later on. I told my husband to send me back the tax disc and i would do it later, but looks like we're going to have to change plans. Do you know why we wouldn't be able to insure the car in Corfu?

Many thanks

Kary

I have found that it is alot easyer in our case (as we have a old escort that is coming to its end) to just drive that over to take stuff over and back than get a new one as there is a long and i mean long list of things you have to have so its just not worth it .have a look at the corfoit one on the other page!!!

Have now given up plan to take car over, far too much hassle, and as the car is 10 years old it's not worth it. I was hoping to packstuff into the car but will have to make other plans.

Kary
