My husband and I are interested in moving permanently to the island with four of our five children. They are between six and fourteen years old. I had a look at the primary school websites but they are greek and i was intersested in english schooling as i have heard there is a english school in corfu town. Hi janebarry

I don't know much about English schools butt for the football clubs are u looking to pplay or spectate? I believe most villages have local clubs and the island has a team, AO Kerkrya, who have just been promoted to the Greek A Dvision!

Take a look at the previous thread links on sports teams and schools.

Hope this helps

Hi Jane,

As far as I know there are no English Schools in Corfu, apart from a senior high school which I heard about, but i'm afraid i cannot remember the name.

If I manage to track down the name i will let you know.

Jane,

There are I think 2 private schools which are at least run on English lines if not English. One is in Gastouri I think it is called the Achillion School but I am not sure. The other I believe is in Dassia but I have only heard mention of it once.  They are not primary schools though.

There are some primary schools which are better equipped to deal with foreign pupils one is the Fifth primary in Corfu Town.  There are others though it really depends on where you will be living as to which would be best for you.

There are no English schools in Corfu, and only one of the private schools has survived - in Kefalo Mandouko just outside Corfu Town.

Some foreign (i.e.. English) children seem to choose the Music High School as being receptive to their needs, but basically the curriculum is utterly different from the UK, taught in Greek, and very little provision is made to help non-Greek speaking children.

However, children pick up languages very quickly, and with some private coaching prior to the start of term, I'm sure they would manage - though it wouldn't be easy.

Thanks Susanna, it was the Music School that I had read was meant to be on English lines - obviously not!

Hi, there are no English schools in Corfu although children can can continue with their English and study eventually for their International O and a level examinations through my afternoon school which is based in Corfu Town.

My own daughter attended the Music high school in Javros, starting at the age of 11 with no Greek. Difficult, but she coped and learnt the language quickly.

We also hold Grek language classes for adults.
