So come on you potential residents, share your hopes and fears. Here's a few of mine for starters.

1)I fear that my brain will struggle to understand that I'm not getting bored I'm relaxing.

2) I hope that the letter box will not be the object of hatred it is now and bills like those in 'Rip off Britain' will not follow me to Corfu.

3) I fear that I will miss our son more than I think even though he's the world's most untidy young man.The wife and I know he will leave home this year whatever happens and Mum and Dad aren't part of his 'clubbing set' so we probably won't be missed.

4) I hope that I can examine every nook and cranny of Corfu , learn enough Greek to mix with the locals, be warm more often than I'm cold and watch loads of sunsets and sunrises with my favourite person, the wife.Maybe find the old romantic side again.

That'll do for now. Go on tell us your hopes & fears.

Steve

Oh my word, I could have written something just the same as that.  You are not alone.  My fears are very similar and so are my husbands.  However, the thought of living life at that slower pace, experiencing that quality of life and appreciating every day and all the good things about the richness of the land, the climate, the food, the people and the fascinating and enchanting history keeps us going towards our dream!

Marathon man & I are taking the plunge as well and like you, have all sorts of things racing around in our heads.

One thing I would say to you though is that your point no.3...... its rubbish. Your son will miss you guys as much as you will miss him, its not the ends of the earth though and think how lovely the re-unions will be (plus you get to wave goodbye again to the un-tidyness)

Our eldest daughter is settled with her partner of 5 years and our youngest daughter 22, at the moment, seems to be retiring with us So if you guys get realy lonely.... I could always send her around??

Hi folks, thanks for the replies. Hey Dave I only wrote this because I forgot the wife's birthday (only joking, te hee).Jane, it's nice to see others put into words how they really feel about the move.Angie, my son who is 21 is the credit card King so that's a worry but he assures us he'll be fine, personally I think he may finish up in Corfu, we'll see.If he does  I'll send him round to yours.lol.

5) I fear that the mother in law may feel she should spend more time with her eldest daughter.

6) I hope we make friends who are embarking on a similar life.

Gotta go now and fight 'The Battle of the Bills', starting with a cheque to the throat of the Poll Tax.

Hi Steve

We feel exactly the same as you about our move to Corfu at the end of the year - a bit scarey but very exciting and we are soooo looking forward to it .... all that sun and all those nice people to meet and places to see. Can't wait - by this time next year I'll be able to say to our english friends who phone that "it's 30 degrees here, sorry it's only 12 in England!", just like my mother does to us now!

All the best with your move!

Angie

Hey Brian, make it a big bottle of Ouzo, we may need to discuss the finer points of your plan, sounds good to me.We're thinking on similar lines.I don't suppose your three months in the UK would be June,July,August would they? Would you come home for Christmas?

Hey Angie H, Do you find that wherever you are in the world it's better weather where your Mum is. When certain people say 'oh I don't like  it in Greece' I just smile. Hey but when she says she might pop over and see us she'll be welcome. How can anybody not love Corfu.

Steve & Mandy
