Yes as I understand it in the north of the island its forbidden to dive as that is for the lobster fisherman, if you log on to diving in Corfu on the internet it will point out the best places and the dive centers. I to was hoping to dive in the north as we hope to live their . A bad dive is better than a good day at work . maybe we will dive together sum day ! Have fun.

It's illegal to dive anywhere in Greek waters without a licensed guide. This as a cover all to stop people fetching up the artifacts from the seabed.  In Corfu they don't bother too much about this as there is nothing around the island to bring up. When we return to Corfu in August I am thinking of briging all my dive gear here including my compressor.

If you intend to go Scuba Diving in Corfu, PLEASE make sure you go with a recognised company. My son-in-law, who is a very experienced diver, went last September and had a problem. He wound up in hospital in Corfu town, on oxygen and it was touch and go whether he would have to be sent to the mainland to the naval hospital for decompression! He was not allowed to fly back with us and had to stay another week until it was safe for him to fly. Big problem with the insurance company, although they paid out eventually! A good company will send someone with you to the hospital who can translate for you. There is NO decompression chamber in Corfu!  Moyra

Hi Chas & everybody...

As far as i know (having dived in Corfu since '87) there is no restrictions on diving in Corfu! The only places i know of with limitations are the Diapontia islands off the north coast...  and some deeper WW II wrecks in the Albanian strait!

I would recommend using one of the professional dive centers on the island, they can show you the best dive spots... and you will be a lot safer diving these waters with experienced guides - especially if you want to explore the many caves on the north coast (a must for experienced divers i think!)

This said, i want to emphasize that not all divecenters on the island is what i would call professional! I've had grueling experiences with some dive centers - fortunately no one got hurt... be critical when you talk to the divecenters around the island, try and dive a couple of places and find your favourite...

Regards

Soren

Hi Peeps

Good  sound advice as usual with this web site, I will check out the dive centers when we move over in June.

I  have my open water cert but, I would like to get my daughter more involved, she has been diving before and almost got her scuba cert...  I have dived a couple of times with the seven islands dive school, they seemed ok.

If any one can recomend any others it would be a great help.

Once again a big thanks

Chas

Corfu Diving in Paleokastritsa is one of the oldest dive centers in the med.. check them out! 5 to 10 min from the divecenter are some of the best dive spots on the island, for beginners and advanced..
