Hi Sailor,

i read your post. I admire anyone who trys to do something with with their life. It takes a lot of courage to start afresh in a new country or even in a different field of work. I am an electrician by trade but can also carry out plumbing, carpentry, tiling, suspended ceilings etc and have often thought about starting a business in corfu. I have two young daughters so am concerned about their schooling.

I purchased an apartment in Barbati in 2000, so have good experiance of Builders and tradesmen. Good service is not a high priority Although they try to make up for it by being friendly!! Dont mention reliability!! These are a few areas where you could get a good reputation. There is a gap in the Boat hiring market which could be exploited, although some market research would have to be carried out.

I have some American friends, and the thing they constantly moan about is the expense and lack of service, now we have the Euro in Greece prices seem to have risen considerably.

Maybe oneday i will realise my dream(im'e halfway there)

Until then keep the faith and i hope which ever way your path leads it works out OK, Who knows maybe one day i will be renting one of your boats!!!

all the best Mark

Hi Cameron & Markyh.

Many thanks for your kind posts. I think the main thing is to realise that anything like this is not going to be easy, but we can with careful planning, lots of research, and gaining all the facts, it can be done. Some people do rush into things, including making a move like this, but they are the ones or normally end up returning home (sadly).

Knowing what one wants to do, where to go, and how to go about it is the main thing. Then as stated before, having the financial support to do it.

Any information will be gratefully received and placed in my Corfu Portfolio.

Regards

hi all!   i agree with you sailor!  knowing where to go,what to do+how to do it is most important.    i would also like to stress that having a "plan b" for everything protects and provides a safety net too! as i said before, with all honesty i dont want to disheaten anyone with my experiences, and cameron, the ducking+diving is all part of the experience!     im lucky to be able to say that the hardest part for me is adapting to a new language+culture but i wont ever forget my roots!      may i say that discovering this forum has provided me with so much pleasure and helped me considerably through the last couple of months of a very long first winter. 3 weeks and its back to work but i will definately be popping in for a chat!    thankyou all so much, i love this site!

just a quick note that you may find useful.   i live in the north of corfu, Acharavi to be exact. we have the weather,a beach, bars, restaurants, post office+shops.  my point is that although it is a wonderful place, warm+friendly with people returning year after year, there isnt really anything to attract new tourists or daytrippers.(landmarks etc).              i will eat my words and stand corrected if anyone chooses to disagree!   maybe the destinations you choose are different for tourism+business etc?   get my point?       Acharavi is undoubtably the "capital" of the north and a beautiful village but we do seem to have hit on a problem here.

I am also considering moving to Corfu but I am having problems finding out procedures on buying houses in Corfu.

I have also constructed a folder but it seems to be more full of pretty houses near the beach as I keep getting stuck in the dream instead of the reality of what I'm trying to do.

If anyone can please help in my research as it is quite bare on real information!!!!

thanxs loads

Hi Corfiotbabe.

As you will have seen from my posts on this thread, I have also constructed a file in process of moving to Corfu. There are many other threads and pages on this site in respect of properties on the coast and inland, ideas on working within the community, legal matters, etc, etc.

For properties take a look at the following web pages:

www.corfurealestate.com

www.corfurealestate.net

www.cpacorfu.com

www.greeceforvisitors.com

www.corfuestateagents.com

Hope this gives you some good ideas. Solicitors are another must, and you will be advised on this matter.

Regards
