Hi, Having been a [serial] Corfu holiday maker for years, we want to try a different island/resort for a change. Can anyone give me feedback on smaller (but not isolated-a good variety of taverna's, bars and the odd disco is fine!!)gorgeous places in Kefalonia (with a harbour preferably-love my harbours!!)

We have spent many fabulous holidays in Kassiopi, Corfu and I am sure there must be other just as fab places on the other islands....

Many thanks,

Kefalonia
Nathan from Agni Travel was in Aghia Efimia last week and he said that it was like Kassiopi... I love Aghia Efimia and if you can hang on until we have uploaded more info on accommodation on
www.agni.gr/travel
we will have some apartments in Ag Efimia for online bookings as I am teaming up with Agni Travel in Corfu to operate to Kefalonia now....

Kefalonia

Hi Shivcool,

Skala on Kefalonia is a beautiful resort to relax in, Its not got a harbour but everything else you could want from a typical Greek resort is there including a fantastic beach and some wonderful Tavernas......

Kefalonia

Take your pick of great resorts with harbours - Poros, Sami, Agia Efimia, Fiskardo and Lixouri, to name just a few.  Then there are others that have moorings for small fishing boats, like at Katelios.

They all have their own characters and my own favourites are Poros and Katelios but I do agree with what Francesca has said about Agia Efimia - it really is a charming place and it would be a great introduction to the island.

Hi, thanks so much for your help - it's so hard to try to source a new holiday destination when you have been so satisfied and content with your choices before! But I know I can trust this Forum and it's members.... Agia Efimia sounds lovely (and if it's half as gorgeous as Kassiopi I'll be a happy girl!)Any feedback about accomodation and how easy it is to book independantly (ie flights from GB-Scotland if poss-and accomodation via the internet) would be fab!

Thanks again.

This is spooky Shivcool, because we are thinking of  Kefalonia next year after 4 years in Kalami/Kouloura, and I feel like I am rejecting lovely Corfu - but like you we think we should try something else.   We are looking at Old Skala - what we have read sounds great and the villas are lovely  but my heart is still in Kalami really.......

About booking independently. I recommend you look at the www.agni.gr/travel selection of properties for CFU and EFL. Check availability then book your flight and confirm the room - the sales team at Agni Travel will be good at redirecting ardent Corfu goers to Kefalonia this year as they live in Corfu but have played a large part in selecting the properties here in Kefalonia. As for flights from Scotland - they planned a GLA flight here this year but it didn't materialise. We haven't finished uploading all the infor for 2008 yet....

Hi Francesca, thanks for your help! We'll definitely check out the agni site before booking anything with an operator - I much prefer dealing direct with the apartments/flights as it means that the owners and resorts get a better income (and we get far better apartments, service, prices and overall holidays!!)

Finger's crossed a GLA flight can be secured for 2008....

Thanks again.

Hi

We have been to Aghia Efimia twice this year and it was great both times. The first time, we booked a villa before we went which was very expensive (on the main road out of Aghia and too noisy), but the second time (last week) we just turned up and got an appartment overlooking the harbour for 30 euros a night.

If you go in August it is packed full so you would have to book beforehand.

The cost of a taxi from the airport is 40 euros but agree this with the driver before the journey! Ask one of the car hire offices in Aghia to book a taxi for the return to the airport and they will tell the taxi that it is 40 euros!

There are enough restaurants to eat somewhere new each night. The ones with lots of people eating in are not always the best!

From the harbour you can hire a boat and get a ferry to Ithica.

Might see you there.

Kefalonia

Hi, all of my family have been travelling to Kefalonia for many years. We always go to Poros it is the next port on from Skala and is much less touristy; it has a beautiful harbour a few tavernas and shops and is very safe and clean. We always book our hotel and flights direct,  here is the website of the guy (Makis) we stay with in Kefalonia he has a few different accommodations so you will find one that suits your needs and pocket. http://users.otenet.gr/~maki/irina/

Enjoy your travels I think you would find it hard not to in such a beautiful and friendly place.
