The last time we went 2 years ago it was very small but you don't have to q outside like you do at Zante, they got us through really quickly on the way home - it all seemed well organised.

Many thanks for replies.  I've visited the suggested web site and it's very good.  Airport sounds better than Corfu!!!

Hi Blue Chairs.

Nothing is wrong with Corfu airport. Perhaps a little small for the number of passengers/visitors it handles, which does cause some queuing, but thats about it really. The same with most of the islands.

Yammas, Chris.

Hello Blue Chairs - ok - honest - we always go to Corfu on a Monday which is the busiest day.  You really need to have the mental attitude that you will go with the flow.  The airport is very clean but much too small.  We stay in a villa so we can get away with only taking hand luggage.  I have been told you are lucky to get your bags from the carousel in under 1 hour (by our rep).  We have been twice this year - June and September and both times the main tour operators had people queing outside to get into the airport - this is because they scan suit cases before you can check in and there are only two machines so it can be somewhat chaotic.  The main thing to bear in mind is that once you have left the airport Corfu is very worth it!  HOpe you have a lovely holiday.

Kefalonia

Just back from our first trip to Kefalloinia. Had a great holiday. The airport is modern but waaaaay too small. Flight days are Thursdays and Sundays and the airport could not cope with the shear number of flights. Most of the passengers had to check in then go back outside as security would not allow passengers to go upstairs to the departure gates. I think there were only three gates.  It's hectic and you need to keep your wits about you to make sure you don't miss or delay your flight.

Sounds familiar!!  I think we will stick with our plan of only taking hand luggage!

Kefalonia

I've been to kef 7 times now marymouse and had no problems with luggage. We just join the queue, get the luggage scanned and check in. If the terminal is too crowded and it does around the check in desks 'cos everyone wants to be first through passport control!, just go back up towards the entrance, or if its still too full, go outside and catch the last of the sun!! they have speakers outside so you can hear your flight being called to passport control. On arrival, there is only one carousel so it can get a bit crowded especially if 2 flights land together but we haven't waited for much more than 20 minutes. If you are desperate for the loo when you get to the reclaim area, ignore the first loos you see, the ones with the massive queues and walk round the corner. On your left you will find some more virtually empty 'cos no one knows they are there............ oops, i've given the game away now!!
