The GeeWizz is very popular in London and avoids congestion charges and parking charges so for short distance they're ok but just a bit uncool for many.
The really big players are the Chinese particularly BYD (Build Your Dreams) Build Your Dreams Hybrid car
We have got to save energy now before the lights start to go out.
Wind farms, as Sea Angler, says are just one of the many viable alternative but they must be in proportion to the locality.
Wind power differs radically to localised photo voltaic panels,ie one for each household, in that the suppliers have control over price.

The problem the generation of electricity using wind power is that it just isn't reliable enough - windspeed needs to be above 14mph (I think) in order for the turbines to work. There are very lengthy periods around Corfu (and elswhere in the world) when the wind just doesn't blow, so there is always a need for an alternative method of generation. All of this makes wind power a very expensive non-solution.
