Hi everyone, I've been reading all your posts and thought I would chip in with a few notes from my fortnight in Sidari recently. I Hope all of you going this summer will enjoy your stay!

Accomodation
The 4 of us stayed at the Socrates apartments in the Canal d'amour area. The owner, Socrates and all his staff were very welcoming and really made a difference to our stay. The bar & restaurant ('The Rocks') offered a great view to the sea. We ate there during lunches and the odd evening and I'd recommend the food.

Spotlessly maintained throughout and some of the best Greek apartment's we've stayed in.

Aqualand
Had a great day out here. Didn't go on First Choice's excursion as the local travel agency offered a much cheaper deal (22e v 37e pp from memory). The 'rides' were good fun, especially the ones using the rubber rings. Try the wave pool (3rd largest in the world, apparently) but ensure you are near the front for the best waves. We're in our 30's but there's still plenty to do for younger children.

In The Evening
We had several drunken nights at the apartments with Socrates, Alex & Costas who made some wicked drinks (try red vodka & coke).

Not being 21 anymore, we didn't stay on the main strip until the early hours but did enjoy a few drinks mainly in Shakers, Palazzo & IQ (further down the strip).

We tried several restaurants in the evening. Our favorites were Pizza Romano (off the main strip behind the church - excellent Pizza), Symposio (good Greek style), The Family (again, good Greek style) and Cactus Jacks (heaps of Tex Mex Steak & ribs etc.)

We also ate at the Panorama restaurant at Sunset Beach (10 min taxi ride). Whilst the food was perhaps not our favorite, the view of a sunset is awesome. The bar at the entrance makes fantastic fresh mint Mojhitos!

Mosquitos
The only real downer of our holiday. The majority of people we talked to had the odd bite, for most it wasn't an issue, just a small red mark for a day or too. Unfortunately the 'missus had severely infected bites all up both legs and after a visit to the 'quack had an injection in her bum, antibiotics, 3 creams and bandaged legs. Obviously she wasn't best pleased but kept a smile and didn't let it ruin her holiday.

Other Activities
2 Of us hired some cycles for an afternoon from Pink Panther next to Cactus Jacks for 4e each. A 20 minute trip to sunset beach was a great diversion from the sunbed around the pool!

From the main beach we hired a 4 seat pedalo (10e-ish) and enjoyed a trip around the various rocks and a swim in the sea.

Booked from the local travel agent, we spent the day on an East Coast boat tour of Corfu. We stopped off at several of the small resorts on the island and the chilled, more quaint atmosphere of these places was a interesting contrast to Sidari. We also enjoyed the chance to dive off the boat and swim in some caves.

There were many highlights of our time but I hope those of you going soon will find it useful!

Hi chrissieboy

Welcome to CTG, Great report and I look forward to trying some of the places you visited.

Although we have been going to Sidari for over five years, weve never been to sunset beach but will go in July.

The Family bar is one of our favourite restaurants.

(at)I.Parks,

There's not much of a beach at Sunset Beach, oddly but the sunset on a clear day is spectacular. There's another restaurant there which, whilst not offering quite the view of the Panorama, seemed popular with others we talked to. I think it's called 'dancers on the sunset' or similar.

Thanks chrissieboy and welocme to the site. I'm off to Sidari in a week and it feels nearer reading your report. I love Sunset beach - did you try the new restaurant there?

I've not been to Aqualand but plan to visit this year so your report was welcomed.

Hope your wife has now recovered from her reaction to the mozzies.

Not tried the new restaurant at sunset beach although folk round the pool were recommending it. Apparently Nikos & Costas who run 'dancers on the sunset' (the restaurant name - I think) worked for some years at Socrate's hotel and are a right laugh.

I'd definitely go to Aqualand. After visiting other waterparks I'd say some of the 'rides' were a bit tame (black hole was dissapointing) and the 'mental' rides really were too mental! Each to their own, though. Cracking day out.

Hey chrissieboy, really informative report, thanks for taking the time to write it

Were there any activities etc you think you'd go on another time or were close to going on from others recommendations?

Thanks all.

I've never seen Red Vodka in the UK (although I'm sure you could find it in a good bar or off license). It's similar to normal Vodka, although not as strong and will freeze in a freezer! Mojhito's are the best tho - make sure you try one from the bar at the Panorama on Sunset Beach. We thought the guy was taking a while making them but realised he went off to cut some fresh mint. Lovely!

In terms of other trips, the glass bottom boat - quite fancied that. Some folk round the pool went on a boat trip which ended with a bbq on a beech somewhere. I'm not sure if this was a first choice/ thompson trip or not but they were not very impressed by the boat trip itself and the bbq was alledgedly poor so we avoided that one.

We nearly went to Corfu town - heard good reports but ran out of holiday time!

Any trips you are offered through your local operator will be as good  if not better than your tour operater, and loads of Euro's less through a local tourist shop. The travel agents costs so much more because they are trying to ensure their reps can actually get enough money to survive. Try local shops like Value plus and others that will really give you a good deal.
