Hello everybody, This is my first post so be gentle with me lol.. My dh , 2 children and myself are going to Sidari for the first time at the end of June. I can not wait. I fell in love with Corfu 10 years ago, when we wnt to Kavos (we were younger at the time). I loved the people and the country side so decided on Sidari as I believe it is a good place to go with a family.

My problem is that, I have heard that the transfer time from the airport to the resort can take up to 3 hours and we don't want to be stuck on a coach with 2 kids, 5 and 7 for that long so we were considering hireing a car, picking it up from the airport and driving to Sidari.

As it will be late in the evening around 10.00pm, and I remember that the roads were a night mare the last time we visited, had the roads became any better and were their clear signposts along the way.

I would love to hear from anybody who had made the journey from the airport to Sidari, and if it was at all difficult.

Thanks!

Sidari is not as far as we go but I would have expected 2 hours coach transfer at the most.   Why not re-post your message on the Sidari board for more responses.

Personally speaking, if you wish to avoid the coach transfer then I would  opt for a taxi particularly being in the late evening when it will be dark, unless you need a hire car for the whole holiday. The roads signs have improved but to drive yourself would be stressful when you are all tired.

Usually your hotel / accommodation owner will be able to reserve the taxi so you will be met at the airport.  If not I have a telephone number of a taxi driver based at the Sidari rank on my web-site.

You can then hire a car locally for just a few days, otherwise I am sure it would be standing idle for some of the time as there is plenty to do in Sidari.

Hello Belfastbabe,I wouldn't recommend driving to Sidari. The road north along the coast is very steep, winding, and dark, and to go cross country at that time of night when you don't Know the roads is crazy. You can get a taxi for about 40 euros but if i were you i would just sit back ,relax and just enjoy the different villages you go through. You can allways stretch your legs when the coach stops for a drop off.Good Luck,Stevie.

Hi

I have moved the thread to the Sidari forum.  I am sure someone here will be able to help.

I haven't stayed in Sidari but we did have a long transfer when we went to Roda.  It wasn't helped by having to wait at the airport on the coach for almost an hour.  Inevitably, perhaps, one of the children was sick.  So, I quite understand why you are thinking of driving.  The thing is, you may have a really quick transfer and I have to say that I would prefer the idea of being driven to Sidari at that time of night.  Also, the children may fall asleep, in which case they will hardly notice how long the journey takes.

Whatever you decide, have a lovely holiday.

Julia

 Hi Belfastbabe,

Unless you are a very confident driver, and patient, do not drive to Sidari at night. I make the trip regularly and would definately advise against it. Get a taxi from the airport- agree the price before you get in- could be up to 60 Euros, the return journey in a Sidari taxi will be a lot less. It will only take about 30 minutes at that time of night. Have a great holiday.

 Richard.

Hi belfastbabe,

We done the coach trip from the airport  last year in day time and it took ages (3 1/2  hours!!) and yes the views are breath taking though.

But by the time we reached about Aracavi, my youngest was ill though.  So this year we are going to hire a car for the whole of the stay.

Any other questions ask away.

Hellie.x.

Thank-you everybody for your comments. I will show then to DH. I don't really want him to be driving at night on those roads, so hopefully he will see sence, with a bit of luck lol.

Thanks again!

Hi belfastbabe,  If you are arriving late then you would not be able to see the views if travelling by coach.  I would opt for a taxi you would get there a lot quicker and it would be easier for the children. You will have a great holiday. baza

Hi BelfastBabe

I used to live just outside of  Sidari so I know the route from the airport well.  For someone who hasn't made that journey before I would not recommend you driving there, especially in the dark as the signposts for Sidari are ok until you get past Troumpeta pass then they kind of disappear and unless you know where you are going you are probably going to end up getting lost.

I would recommend getting a taxi as it is true that it is not unheard of to have a 3 hour transfer (dependant on what holiday company you are travelling with and how many drop offs they have on the way, speaking from experience Thomson are the ones who seem to have the longest transfers).

I wouldn't pay more than 50 euros for a taxi transfer to your apartments (and remember to agree a price before you get into the taxi at the airport).  There are always plenty of taxis on the rank just outside of the arrivals hall so you will have no problems picking one up.

As for coming back to the airport you might want to hire a car nearer to the end of your holiday and drive back to the airport if you are flying in daylight as by that time you will have gotten a bit more used to where Sidari lies in relation to the rest of the island and the airport is better signposted from Sidari than Sidari is from the airport (if that makes sense?).

Have a great holiday, hope this info helps.

Amanda
