Hi Lucky.

There are a few members who have driven down to Corfu, one in particular does most times. I pondered over the idea myself for a future trip, and using my Autoroute 2005, I plan in a route from my home town, via Dover, and down to Italy, either Venice or Bari (further south), and then plan the ferry from there.

From those who have done this trip, it appears that 3 days, is the norm. Remember the ferry from Venice is 23 hours.

The above link is a previous topic on this subject from back at the beginning of the year. You can also do a search (magnifying glass icon), type in Driving to Corfu in the subject box, and this will bring up lots more topics on the same subject.

Other members, in particular those who have done the drive will see this in due course and hopefully give there ideas on the subject. In the meantime, I hope this gives you something to look at.

Yammas, Chris.

Hi Lucky, we have done the trip from Derbyshire to the N/E coast of Corfu several times and always different ways we could probably give you some advice here. If all the aeroplanes stopped flying to Corfu I think my wife would be very happy as she would always drive if at all possible. I am just sorting out the page for Nathan with a few different suggestions by people who have done it in the past.  If you give me a little more info on the speed you want to do it and the price you want to pay(do you want to pay for cabins or are you prepared to sleep on the deck?)

PS Just booked the tickets to go back again at the end of January. Dover-Calais, hotel in south of Belgium, Next day to Black Forest then following day to Austria, stop for a couple of days Ski-ing, over to Italy, stop again for a couple of days ski-ing (assuming no broken limbs from Austria), down to lake Garda for a night then on the Venice ferry next day for a relaxing trip to Corfu.

You said you wanted an easy route but do you really want it this easy or is there a time factor involved (or cost)?? Give us a clue please

Hi Lucky

Like Graham, we have driven over to corfu many times - see my posting on the link provided by sailor.

You may also like to have a look at an article posted in the "travel to Greece" thread, entitled Corfu on two wheels, which describes my trip out on a motorbike during the summer (I'm curently putting together an article about the return trip).

Note that the Gothard Tunnel now closes at 8pm - after this time you have to over the pass - as I did, and in the dark!

This is what Elaine and I want to do sometime. So would be greatful for actual routes, stopover places, etc, so that I can input into my Autoroute 2005. We are quite happy to travel throughout the day, with lunch stops, drink stops, stopping over at a Travel Lodge or similar for the night from about 8pm. Arriving in Italy, Venice for the ferry.

I did plot Bournemouth to Corfu into my Autoroute, and it gave a route down to Venice in 1 day and 4hrs. Is this about right. I intend to allow 3 days each way, including ferry crossing.

Your thoughts and ideas on this would be grateful.

Yammas. Chris.

Hi Martyn.

Cheers mate. Now there is a thought, do I want the quick route, or the scenic route. Would it be possible to asked for both, when ever you have a moment please.

Yammas, Chris

Hi Chris,

I did Dover to Dunkirk. First stop Brussells (not a good place to drive though!), then on to Innsbruck through Germany (avoiding the French tolls), then Venice. Took 5 days, but quite steady driving. You can do a lot faster than that if you like.

The motorways through Austria are still very scenic.

Hi Debbi

Guess you must be back by now.

I did see your car (grey Ford Ka?) parked somewhere near Nissaki, way back in June. Sadly, I was on my way back to Corfu town (on the bike) to catch the ferry to Igoumenitsa and then homewards. Didn't have time to stop and look you up. Hey ho.

Martyn
