LOL Bill, you took the words out of my mouth (again)! As you know, I'm not exactly sylph like and have been struggling for years to get back to something like a healthy weight! But having one dodgy knee and two dodgy shoulders does not make it easy to find a form of exercise that will not cause further damage. I also work full time and find it difficult to fit in any exercise at all...hence tonight I am starting at Gymaphobics for their 30 minute workout! I find that lots of really slim people do not work (at least full time) and have plenty of time to visit the gym during the day!

It's so easy to say eat less, exercise more...it's far more difficult to have the courage to admit you are wrong on both counts and to try to do something about it! So more power to all of us on this forum who know we need to do something and are brave enough to admit it!

A case in point...my friend Lynn (who is visiting Corfu with me and Mr Eliza for the first time ever this summer!) is like me - 50 something...but thats where the similarity ends! She snacks on junk all day, often has chocolates for breakfast! and eats huge meals and desserts! She does no proper exercise at all.
Then there's me. I dont snack, eat three small healthy meals per day, walk the dog and swim /exercise most days.
So going by Angelas theory...who is the slim gorgeous one and who is the dumpy cuddly one? The slim one should be me of course!
BUT because everyones metabolism is different...Lynn remains a slim size 10, whereas I struggle to squeeze into a 12...
Yes eat less and exercise more is very good advice...for your health. But dont assume it necessarily makes you slim

Well for it's worth, I love all women not matter what their size are, and unless your doctor has told you your weight is bad for your health then don't live all your life trying to slim all the time. I have lived for years with Maria telling me she is over weight...I can't see it myself, all I can see is a very beautiful and loving women who has worked her butt off for me and the family...what more can I want. If your doing it for yourselves, great...but if your doing it to please others forget it.

I have a daughter who is 45 years old, 4ft 9ins tall, and who is a size 8 and can out eat anybody in my family and she can scoff a large box of chocolates in one sitting and never put on a ounce, she takes after me, and then there are those in my family who only have to look at food and they will put on weight.

So back to the beginning of this post...I think you girls are all lovely no matter what size you are, because your all 's

Awwww Bruce - you charmer you xxx

I also agree with Bill (again) I also thought the post was a little degoratory to say the least!!! Didn't make me feel too great either...

Everybody is more than aware that a sensible diet and exercise is good for you... but for some it's not that simple as Bill says, psychological, emotional healthwise etc some people have these hurdles to overcome which is not that easy and for some it's a lifelong battle.

I have also never been a svelte size 6/8 and have also overindulged far too much over the years... the result was an overweight mum with a muffin top... as you get older the body also fights it's own battle trying to shift the excess pounds you have gained over the years and it's a real struggle...

Last night me and my sister were weighed at the gym and I had lost another 4 lbs!!! My sister on the other hand had not lost anything she was extremely disheartened by this but I was there to support her every step of the way and she is determined to continue with the healthy eating and exercise.

Hi all, like I said in an earlier post, if it was easy to slim we would all be slim. But that wouldnt do, because some people who are naturally slim or work their butts off to stay slim would have no one to be superior to!! We are all made different and thats what makes us interesting and unique. And if anyone wants to feel lovely and slim on holiday, come and sit next to little fatty me, I dont mind as long as you buy me a drink and pass me another cake!! lol Ann xxx

To put the record straight,
I am 3 stone lighter now than I was as a young woman,

I eat sensibly, I don't diet,

I don't go to the gym.

Eat sensibly for life, not just when you go on a 'diet', and don't eat more than your body needs.

Cut down on foods gradually, use a smaller plate to start with, get your body used to eating less, slowly.
Think of your weight in 2 years time not just this summer holiday.

The words fat or thin, should be replaced with healthy or unhealthy, or happy or unhappy.

I have maintained my weight for many many years now and yes there are challenges, but it's your body, if you don't look after it no one else will.

I would be more than happy to give anyone any helpful advice but it is no quickfix.

Malcy

I remember the day I lost my flared trousers for good.

My Son was 5 years of age and his class in school was putting on show "The Circus Comes to Town" he was to be a clown.

Yes I took my last pair of beloved bell bottoms and also a white shirt of his and a pair of braces and sat there all afternoon sticking these bits of felt on with glue. Could not work out why I felt dizzy when I stood up lol I had been glue sniffing all afternoon . Also glueing yellow wool in strands to a hat to make it look like he had long yellow hair.

The things we do for love.

Still will be able to go and buy some more now Malcy with maybe a bigger bottom as they are back in Fashion.

Well done Rosy, I have now lost 10lb in total since I started my healthy eating and upped my swims from twice to 3 times a week. I have been to do zumba in the water this morning a real good laugh. Now Im off to work to do my 24 hour shift, looking after people with learning disabilities. It is so hard to motivate myself at the moment but want to keep busy as hubby having tests for cancer and not looking good, and I might lose my job will find out in 10 days. Sorry for the moan said I would only have positive thoughts today and we have a holiday booked for Corfu in June.Fingers crossed xx
