I managed to lose 10 kilos over 3 months a couple of years ago using a low Glycemic Index diet called "The South Beach Diet". I was quite amazed and am now doing it again as I put some weight back on.
I keep reminding myself of the mantra
"Diet and Exercise combined!!!"
I found that I had to quite single-minded and avoid the temptations other people put in your way - "Oh just a wee taste won't do any harm", etc!!

Have to say Tina. I have been drinking this for over 7 years and back in September I had my first cold in 7 years. So it must work.
Paleogirl - Well done you have around 5 months till you go so good luck with it.

This is becoming my area of expertise, thanks mainly to the Mrs.
Research the Cambridge diet, if you are serious about losing weight you can lose 6 stone in six months, just as she has.
Also, think of your alcohol intake, one pint of lager - 200 calories.
I recently quit drinking completely (15 months ago) and as such I have lost 2 full stones without really trying (except for stopping drinking, that was exceptionally hard)
The Cambridge diet teaches you how to eat healthily, start by having portion control, ditching big dinner plates and using a side plate, that way it still looks like you're getting a full dinner, albeit a little smaller.
Drink zero sugar drinks, they have only 2 calories per can, no 'full fat' coke and other variables, cut down on snacking, if you do snack, have carrot sticks and cucumber, surprisingly filling with a glass of water.
Sounds tough, but, if you seriously want to lose weight it's well worth the effort.
Think how much easier it will be to walk back up the hill to your apartment with a few stones off.

A friend of mine needed to lose 20 kilos - I reminded him that it was the weight of his limit of luggage to put in the hold of an aircraft and asked him how he felt lugging a heavy suitcase around. He was doing that every day, up stairs etc - no wonder he needed a hip replacement.

I lost nearly 3 stone on the Rosemary Conley diet and fitness, but have put a stone back on, it will all change this year as I doing the Coast to Coast walk this year, so watch this space. Need to get megga fit. Start next week though. Straight after Christmas is a tough time for anyone trying with a diet. Stick with it everyone.

I posted on this same subject last year about this time! I had 2 stone to lose (Slimming World). I did it, and had a great holiday, wearing a bikini and feeling good about my body for the first time in years (before kids!) You can do it! I must admit SW was really easy for me. I even let my husband take a photo of me in the said bikini!

The Cambridge Diet looks great but, for me anyhow, the cost would be prohibitive. All my weekly savings that go towards Corfu holiday would (literally) be swallowed up! At least with Slimming World/Weightwatchers you can eat normal food.
Anyhow, I've got to get back to doing something otherwise Greenpeace will be moored off the coast of St Stef in July, trying to save me!

To be honest the plan (the one that I did) was complete meal replacement so I only spent on it what I would of spent on food shopping for the week. For me I had so much to lose I needed to do something drastic and it worked and gave me the results fast
