Eat sensibly for life, not just when you go on a 'diet', and don't eat more than your body needs.

Cut down on foods gradually, use a smaller plate to start with, get your body used to eating less, slowly.
Think of your weight in 2 years time not just this summer holiday.

The words fat or thin, should be replaced with healthy or unhealthy, or happy or unhappy.

I have maintained my weight for many many years now and yes there are challenges, but it's your body, if you don't look after it no one else will.

I would be more than happy to give anyone any helpful advice but it is no quickfix.

Absolutely agree with you!!! I got rid of my excess weight a couple of years ago with 'selective eating'. The relief of not 'dieting' was immense. I finally realised that slim people dont have a different metabolism, they eat 'what they like' but in much smaller quantities and then stop when they're full up. I would recommend anyone reading these posts to try selective eating - as I know from years of experience - when you 'lose' weight on any 'diet' you can 99% guarantee if will all come back.
p.s. I'm not really expecting anyone to take any notice of this message - it's a tad boring as I'm not banging on about struggling with my weight.

Bit harsh marymouse, like to think we on here to encourage each other and I am trying to do what you have achieved. We are all different and yes we all know we should be more selective and eat less and in an ideal world we would all be slim. None of us would have holidays so help to save the planet, etc etc. We are all human and along the way we all need help and like to offer help, if it was easy there would not be millions of pounds made out of the slimming industry. Thats me off to work now be interesting to read the replys tomorrow, hopefully it wont end up a slanging match. Love to all whatever your size Ann xx

I'm not "banging on" about my weight but its sure uplifting if you get some encouragment!! What has made it a lot better for me this time is weighing on a Friday morning, all the clubs I used to belong to in the past weighed in Mon-Wed always in panic mode if we had a nice weekend out, lol

I'm actually trying to help Ann - but you have proved my thought that it would be seen differently. I went through years of dieting - losing 4/5 stones at a time and then putting it back on. Dieting doesnt work. I am encouraging people to try something staggeringly easy. I used to eat chocolate and crisps till I felt sick - now I just dont want to eat them at all. I've read these threads for ages and just got fed up of reading messages from people who, at the end of the day, arent really helping anyone to shift weight permanently - they are just sympathising that they struggle - and staying on dieting treadmill - just like I used to. A few years ago, when I dieted with Rosemary Conley etc I would have been narked at reading what I'm writing now. The reason the slimming industry makes so much money is people keep on trying different diets because it doesnt work. I'm just saying that getting rid of weight permanently doesnt have to be a struggle - sorry if that seems disagreeable.

To be honest, it should be called 'lifestyle change' and not 'diet'

Anyone can 'diet' and lose weight, maintaining a healthy weight is the challenge.

For me, the key is most definitely portion control. It must be the simplest way. I can't be doing with calorie or point counting or weighing my food. I'm too lazy! With portion control you really can eat pretty much what you like, just less of it.

I just couldn't stay on a 'branded diet' for the rest of my life which you would have to do to keep the weight off. It must be an easier life change just to eat less.

For most of us, obviously not all, the reason we're overweight is that we simply eat and maybe drink too much which we just have to face up to.

The most liberating thing though, for me, is that I now never weigh myself. Once those skirts and jeans start to get loose, that's all the encouragement I need to continue!

The Christmas sweets are all gone so I have no distractions apart from the next Taverna lunch on Sunday!

Will power! That's all it takes! Sounds so easy doesn't it? I wish!

Trisa.

Tina - I'm quite happy. I've lost another 2 lbs this week and Rosy, I do a Friday morning weigh in!
But Tina it has taken me into almost unknown territory.
I now go through the week without any alchohol, cheese, chips at lunch if I'm out on the road or chocy/fig biscuites to munch at the office during the day. But I do go on the rowing machine and bike most nights.
I'm still naughty at weekends with a curry and a nice wine but for the first time I am losing weight.
My head is slowly coming up Tina, I won't be the Adonis I was when I was 22 but I might be able to go topless soon!!!

Malcy...as my husband says to me...'you aint never gonna be 18 again Liz'... and thats where we go wrong.

I know I eat healthily, because I just had the MOT at the docs, and my cholesterol/blood sugar/liver/kidney function etc all came back perfect!
I would love to lose a stone or two...purely for how I look...but my body is healthy...so I am not going to beat myself up. I do lots and lots of walking with my dog, plenty of other exercize (Zumba LOL) gardening, swimming...
OK I have some blubber, prefer not to BUT if I lose weight doing what I am doing FAB...if not I am not depriving myself of anything and I am certainly NOT going to give myself muiniscule portions of healthy tasty food for the rest of my life...
I am what I am !
I will never be skinny again but enjoy what I am eating!!!
