Hello to everyone out there, iam new to this site but have become hooked! We really love Greece, and have been to many of the islands, but we about to embark on a Hol to Paxos, staying at the Nicos apartments in Loggos in july. So if anyone out there has stayed at the nicos', i'd love to hear from you! Also if anyone can tell me if the airport/ferry thing  works without too many hitches i'd be very grateful!

I think there are two sets of Nicos Apartments in Loggos.   Have stayed in the ones Kosmar go to several times and they are absolutely fine (although in no way luxurious) and about a minute or so from the harbour front.  The top floor apartments have a corner sea view but small balconies the ground floor apartments have larger balconies and no sea view (you can request your preference) - there is also a studio on the side which has more privacy/two balconies (small) and a sea view (ish).   They all consist of a bedroom at the front with balcony/ twin beds and a seperate kitchen with dining table and chairs at the rear.  The bedroom and bathroom in the studio are downstairs with the kitchen and balconies upstairs.  They all have air con if you need it.  Unless there are some serious sunbathers staying there you can usually have the pool to yourselves but it does get very hot around there more pleasant from about 6pm.  They also have a very small, well tended,  tomato patch.

The other Nicos apartments can be found here http://www.paxos-greece.com/nikosapts.htm and look quite similar inside.

You will have no problem with the ferry (Kosmar book you onto one of the hydrofoils).  You are coached to the port (no more than 10 minutes) from the airport and given your ferry ticket.  You may have a wait of about an hour or so but there are bars.  It may be worth checking if your hydrofoil is already in and then you can leave your luggage on it and have a wander around.  The crossing is just over an hour and you will be met at Paxos and have a taxi to the apartments.

There is a supermarket just past the main gates of the apartments http://www.paxos-greece.com/mastoras_supermarket.htm.  You'll hit the Four Seasons Bar (also on same web site) on your way down to the harbour front.

Enjoy

Thanks for the info DP, much appreciated, it is Kosmar we're going with so it sound like the right one. The online "brochure" didn't give a great deal of information and the picture was small, but it sounds good to me, we don't need luxury! I feel much more reassured about the ferry bit now, we are really looking foreward to it!

Many thanks for the information.

Totally agree with DP's description of the Nicos apartments.  We've stayed there twice and think they are fantastic value.  Plenty of others seem to agree because they always seem to get booked up very early!

The only way our experience differs from DP's is that both times we've stayed there we've had a coach transfer from Gaios to Loggos.  I think it must depend on the time of year and how many people they have to transport.

When are you going?  I'll be in Loggos from 8-28 July, so maybe I'll see you there

Elaine

Friends have stayed there & been back so must be good. We don't as want to be near Sister in Lakka. The brochures do paint the worst picture for boat crossing. It would only take 3 hours if went by the car boat via the mainland & the travel Cos don't use that. Sometimes shared Planos one if other cancelled & takes 2 hours. The old ferry used to take 3 1/2 hour when I was a child. We thought we had gone miles. A lot better last year with the arrival of another company & new hydrofoil so more choice & crossings. Locals think it was great as they couldn't book seats on Mondays most weeks until the tour Cos had booked theirs.

All I can say is sit back & treat the journey as the start of your holiday. Sometimes there is a wait at the airport & we once made them get us a taxi in the end as we were about to miss the last boat. But you get left at a bar or hotel. If it's a long wait you can wander into Corfu Town. The boats have drinks & snacks on & you can wander about. You could be 2 to 3 hours in a coach dropping off on the way on larger islands so I don't think it is a bad journey. You usually share a coach with Olympic guests to & from the port at Gaios. One year the Rep didn't meet us at the port, luckily I recognised the coach & driver so told the others which to get on, not that there is a huge choice. It was suprising how many couldn't cope with the idea of no rep & some strange woman organising them! Beleive me after 2 weeks on Paxos you will be so laid back the journey home will be a blur.

Hi RONO, we will be in loggos from 10-24 july so our paths will cross after the first week! so we should be nicely tanned next to you! seriously though, it's nice to hear from people who are going to be there at the same time. Is your daughter very young? i've gathered it's very quiet there, which suits us 50somethings!(young at heart though!). If you are going with Kosmar, let's hope the take over by Excel does'nt change things.

well, hope to see you there!  P&D

HI there Tina B, only just seen your post, thanks for that, you've given me a giggle, thinking of peoples faces while you were organising them, one good reason to learn a bit of greek! We have had a ferry journey once before, from Thessalonika to thassos, it was early afternoon and left just after our coach arrived from the airport, it took about 2 hours but we quite enjoyed the trip, it was fairly well organised by Kosmar then, so we hope it's the same again. Thanks again for the info!      P& D

Well, if anybody's passing the Europa bar most evenings around 8.30 and they notice a woman with a fag in one hand and an ouzo in the other with a man who has more hair on his chin than on the top of his head (hope he doesn't see this!) - that'll be me.  Say hello!

Elaine
