Simply Travel have just sent me their latest brochure, trying to lure me back to them.  They've no chance!  They've combined the old 3 individual Ionians, Greece and Crete brochures into 1 and cut accommodation on each island down to the absolute bare minimum.

Among many places missing from Paxos are the Marmari Cottages and Marmari Stone Houses.  Now that they're not being sold by Simply/Tui/Thomsons any more, I'd be quite interested to see who picks them up.  If anyone hears anything, I'd love to know.

Thanks - Elaine

Does this include the Beach House as well?

Marmari Stone Houses are here http://www.paxos-greece.com/placestostayloggos.htm

Paxos Property Agency is also selling land around Levrechio beach

Thanks DP!  Sorry I've taken so long to reply, but just got home from a week in hospital this morning.  Off work for at least another 8 weeks, so I'll probably be on here even more than usual for the foreseeable future!

Yes, the Beach House has gone from Simply, but have you ever looked at the OTHER Beach House next door, in Planos's brochure?  We made friends with a family staying there a couple of years ago and had a good look around.   It's probably a bit more basic than the Simply one, but great value for money and an excellent location - and the same black cat that you've probably made friends with if you've stayed there also checks that one out too!

Absolutely delighted to see that the Stone House is now being sold direct by a very old friend of ours.  As you know, we've already re-booked the Manor House for next year, but maybe 2007?  Or, if the right numbers come up, maybe we'll just buy that land

Sorry you've been unwell - thought you'd gone on holiday for a week!  Hope all is well.

Haven't stayed at the Simply Beach Cottage (wish I had) have always stayed with Kosmar (we're not very affluent) but noticed this year that Simply (guess because they're now part of TUI) had greatly reduced their prices - thus making it very affordable.  Yes I've lusted after the Planos properties - all of them! and adore their brochures.  Have you ever stayed at House of Electra? - that was on offer this year for a couple of weeks - think that would be my ideal location - harbour view and same view at the back as the Roxi - heaven - probably still be drinking in the bars though!

Is the Stone House property owned by the family that own the taverna on Levrechio beach?

If the numbers come up - forget the land and go for the Manor House - closer to the baker - handier during those Winter months!

Picked up a 1933 postcard on e-bay to Peter Bull from his mother (assume it's the right Peter Bull) unfortunately not addressed to him at Paxos (which would have been great) - keeping my eye out for that book for you but nothing doing at the mo.

Take care - and enjoy those eight weeks.

Thanks    It was a planned op that I've been waiting for for some time and I'm feeling pretty rough at the moment, but I'm sure I'll get there in the end.

I didn't know you stayed at the Nicholas apartments.  We've been there twice when we wanted a "Paxos-fix" week in late season that wouldn't break the bank.  Dare say you might recognise the family in this photo that I took last year - http://www.flickr.com/photos/xenosuk/52336847/in/set-13880/  Were any of them still around this year?

We've never stayed at Electra, but I agree, it does have fantastic views.  Not sure if I could cope with living next door to the Roxi for more than a week though - we like the occasional early(ish) night to get our strength back up (and our alcohol levels down!)

No, the Stone Houses are owned by the Kakarantzes family who used to have a taverna in the back alley behind the Europa bar.  It closed down about 3 or 4 years ago, which was a pity, because we thought they served the best food on the island.  Toli, whose name is given as the contact on the website, worked as a waiter at O Gios for a couple of years after the family taverna closed, but he got married earlier this year and now has a "proper" day job working on the bin lorry.  I was surprised to see his name given, because I thought that his older brother was sole owner of the Stone Houses, but it looks as though it's now become a family concern.

I had an email from Amazon to tell me they couldn't find the Peter Bull book either and asking if I wanted to renew my standing order for it.  I won't give up, I expect it will turn up eventually.  Whilst I was in hospital, I read Emma Tenant's House in Corfu, which cheered me up a lot.  Have you read that one?

Hi - sorry your feeling grotty.

Thanks for the link to the photo - our snaps were straight out - and yes theres absolutely no doubting those snout markings - she's still there - but not with her family - expecting another and trying to nest in the underwear drawer!  She's still looking great and is really friendly - there was a thread about cats (maybe it was dogs - can't remember) in Greece on here a while back - and apart from one tiny kitten in Fontana who looked as if she had cat flu - all the cats I've seen look really healthy - so they obviously Winter well.  All the dogs I've seen are either very well pampered or working their keep!

The Kosmar aparts are a bargain (although prices have risen a bit for next year).  We stayed in their end studio this year (there's more privacy on the balcony) but did find it a tad uncomfy (getting older) and would have given anything for a sofa to sprawl on.  Still you can usually get the pool to yourselves for a while and it is Loggos

Thanks for the info on the Stone Houses - the olive grove behind the taverna is so well tended that I assumed they had all that land.

Yep have read Emma Tenant's House in Corfu - the house was up for sale earlier this year or last but have just had a fruitless search for the website - so assume it's been sold - it did show some great photos of it.  However Elaine nice though Emma's book is - it's not a patch on P. Bull's.  I don't know if you can put a request on Abe Books' site - but that's where I picked up my copy (they had a bulk of books in from a private collection at the time).  If it's not appeared by next year I'll start typing it up for you!  It may be worth checking e-bay now and then for it.  Abe have several copies of Life is a Cucumber - but there's only two chapters worth of Paxos and it's just not enough.

Take Care

DP

Elaine - FYI, Marmari Cottages, Marmari House and Marmari Stone should all be featuring in the Sunvil programme for next year. Brochure and prices won't be out for a while yet but they are registering advance bookings which means they hold the property for the dates you are interested in subject to the price (once published) being acceptable. 0208 758 4758 or email greece@@@@sunvil.co.uk

Thanks Petros, that's very interesting.  Our first ever holiday to Paxos was with GIC, so if we ever decide to go back to the Marmari properties, it looks like we will have come full circle!  (Sunvil and GIC are owned by the same company for those that didn't already know)
