I'm the same Mrs Moby! Everything we buy over here is so standardised in terms of appearance and colour it really is lovely to be able to buy fruit and veg for its flavour and not  for what it looks like. One of the things I miss first when I get home from Corfu are those gorgeous huge tomatoes. They're a meal in themselves with bread and olive oil!

A table, two chairs on the edge of the beach/taverna, a cold bottle of Kourtakis, two sodas, some bread, a greta Greek salad, a tarama and a tzatsiki.

Doesn't matter which taverna as long as the sun is shining but my favourite time of year to do this is the middle of October when we have the taverna and the beach practically to ourselves and you can sit in the sun without it being uncomfortable!

Perfect!

Janet and I sometimes walk over to Agni from Kalami for lunch, one of our favorites is Toula's prawn's with a carafe of red,the rissoto rice is just out of this world,we sit for an hour or so and then wander back stopping off in Yialiskari for a leisurely swim/float around to try and work some of it off before the night-time arrives and we have to start again.....................I wonder if Heaven is like this ! ! !

Top comments about the fruit and veg Mrs Moby! I always got the impression that most of it was grown locally, but if it isn't - WHY NOT?! With a climate like that there is no excuse...

One of our favourite lunch experiences was to pack a lunch in the cool box consisting of lots of fresh fruit and veg, bread, cooked meats, wine, beer (and of course mineral water) and head off for the afternoon in the hired boat! Picnic on a private beach followed by a leisurely stroll, swim or siesta....

Remind me why I live in the UK?!

Failing that, the taramasalata and Greek salad at Toula's are brilliant. Why does taramasalata never look or taste like that in this country? If anyone can tell me where I can source some smoked cod roe, I will have a go at making it myself.

Incidentally, and please forgive me for getting slightly off-topic, but what is the Taverna at Kouloura like? I have picked up on some conflicting comments on here about it being excellent but perhaps difficult to get into? We never tried it last year but would like to give it a go this summer, especially as it is an easy trip round the corner from Kalami by motor boat.

Comments please!

Well I know that the taverna in Koloura has had some good postings, but Im afraid we have been disappointed on the two occasions we have been there.  Im sure we have just been unlucky, though

However, its lovely to just sit there and watch the world come and go by!

What a delightful topic!

We did not enjoy the first meal we had a Koloura taverna (October 2001) but if, as we did,  you order something you haven't had before that's the chance you take.  We have eaten there every holiday since and  thoroughly enjoyed the food.  Lots of fresh fish, strawberries with lemon sorbet and frappe with ice cream  .  I find Koloura enchanting and then there's that view and all the boats coming and going!

Last year our favourite of the tavernas in Kalami was the Kalami Beach Taverna.  As someone else has already mentioned, the bruschetta was terrific and combined with their delicious cheese pies made a lovely, light, fresh lunch.  In fact, it was so good, I've been thinking about it all winter (that and the seafood spaghetti at a certain taverna in Agni).

Only 82 days to go!  Deedee
