Far be it from me to start a topic, but I notice that this is the only locations forum that hasn't had any input in over a week. Neil & Di were the last on 17th April. All the other forums have had input in the last day or two.

Where are the stalwarts of this sort of thing ? Where are you ' the Hypnotist ' and ' Mapman ', not to mention the aforesaid Neil & Di ?

There must be something to get us all talking. So this new topic is ' Why are there no topics ? '

                                       Regards,

                                             FredF.

Hi Fred, I'm here.  I tried to rouse these sleepy "southerners" before, but I think they like their peace and quiet!  One of them said they want to keep this part of the island to themselves.  I think they are hoping the world will go away if they remain quiet.

Someone said in a post the other day that the "best beaches are all in the North of the island" and I didn't even hear a squeak of protest from anyone!

And when another post proclaimed that there is only one road that leads south, so no one need ever get lost down there, there was a deafening silence.

I wonder, has anyone ever got lost going south of Corfu Town, or is it just me?

Stephan

Still here, do pop in now and again to see if anyone has posted, if you get lost going from corfu town reckon you must have fell asleep at the wheel mind you the unmarked hard left turn on way out of Corfu has probably caught a few out.

might leave it another week to come over, think it might just be a bit too quiet on island for me to pull a decent crowd in in mid May.

Blueeyes, Stephan, and theHypnotist,

Thanks for responding, great to hear from the three of you. Have you ever had that awful feeling when you've initiated something, that nothing will happen, and everybody will ignore you ?

Stephan, was that remark about southerners wanting to keep the place to themselves written ' tongue in cheek ' ? I think I might be one of those who said we like it quiet ! ' Quiet ' is one thing, but the total silence on this forum is another.

Good to know I'm not the only one to have missed that hard left turn after the airport runway crossing. The Achilleon Palace was a bit of a shock to this novice Honda 50 rider discovering the island for the first time. I hadn't a clue where I was, or how I had finished up there.

Thanks again for your efforts. I don't suppose a topic about the lack of topics is really a topic at all, or perhaps it is ? I think I'll return to obscurity, it's safer there.

                                     Best regards to you all,

                                                FredF.

The amount of times I have travelled through/around Corfu town to get to work in Sidari/Ipsos, been up so many alleys and roads to try to find that elusive short cut, (the quickest is still going up a one way street), the other hard left I was on about on way out is (by the coca cola store) the unmarked junction where traffic gives way to you as you turn left is weird, nearly been hit off bike by even greeks not knowing system.......

I look most days on here for any new messages, was going to bring car over but at nearly £1000 return it's not viable, funny thing is I am buying a greek scooter on arrival, what's nice is it's the one I rented and travelled 1000s of kilometres on so know it's a goodun, sorry rambling again.

See ya all towards end of May.

Right and wrong mapman. Right, we want to keep it to ourselves and while away the hours with an Ouzo and a good book and a rest on the beach.

Wrong, I did reply to, Rixy I think, about the best beaches, but as you say we really do like to keep a low profile.

Fred, what's seldom is often best. Oh, and I can ramble with the best of them, as I am now. What am I talking about? I've just lost the thread, or is that the plot. Must be time for a sleep to dream about the beautiful south.

Charlie.

All,

Good to hear from you.

Charlie, I didn't think I was alone in wanting some seclusion on the South West beaches from the rampaging hordes. I can't possibly imagine how Stephan could think it was just me ? I hope the distance from Corfu town, and the distance from the main road will continue to keep them quiet.

Talking of roads theHypnotist, the safest way to negotiate that left turn ( I'm sure it's the same one ) is on board a bus, or just keep going straight on as I did. The few times I've done it as a driver have been with my heart in my mouth.

Time for me to stop wittering. Thanks to you for your kindness in replying.

                                    Regards,

                                           FredF.

I have learnt to drive like the greeks, but still like to show them our British ways of courtesy and a nod or acknowledgement now and again. Think they must have got used to a large english bloke on a scooter hacking past them suitcase between legs after all these years and keep their distance
