Hi all

Tell you abot Prasoudi - then it wouldnt be empty until 11.00am!

The link somebody else posted will I am sure be of some help (I have not yet looked at it) but we were introduced to it by a (Greek) friend a few years ago.

He took us to the Taverna for a meal one Sunday night and we arrived just before sunset! Absolutly fantastic and what I personally feel to be the best food I have ever tasted.

I believe there are/were two tavernas - we always go in May / June and only one ever seems open though!

The beach itself is popular mainly with locals on a Sunday.

Pure sand, showers, beds, umbrellas changing rooms etc etc. The man who "mans" the beds also has this great clay for body masks - not sure where its from but its very popular!

You get to it by following the road through Moriatika and round the bend, past the fuel stations and over the bridge. You then hang a right. After that it is, I am sure, signposted on a big blue overhead sign where you then need to do a left and head off for about 5-10 minutes through the olives. There are only a few houses close to the beach itself which is reached by arounf 50 very steep hand made steps.

There is a fantastic "to be finished" bungalow for sale on CPA which is just 200 metres away - one day - in my dreams when those numbers come up!!!!

Hope this helps and if you manage to get to the beach and taverna, say hi to Elias for us.

Enjoy - but dont tel too many people!!!

Joanna Wells and family, many thanks for your directions to Prasoudia Beach. I can follow those more easily than on the link I posted above....particularly as I know the road you're talking about. Am I right in thinking it is the road to Agios Matteous ? I certainly remember it, as the first time I went up it was on a hired bicycle which had seen far better days. Riding back down the only fully functioning brake failed.

I think the directions you've given can also lead towards Gardiki Fort, and Halikounas Beach, which I'd been meaning to explore more fully.

Thanks again. I certainly won't be telling anybody.

                                Regards,

                                      FredF.

Hi Fred

You are thinking of the right road. Its actually realy hard to try to describe a route you drive automatically - but yes it also leads to the Fort / Castle which is worth a look too.

I would reccommend the following if you are going to visit:

Take enough stuff for the day, change of clothes etc etc

Beware the sand ants, they are huge and bite, so invest in a bed rather than placing your towel on the beautiful sand and risk being biten!

The link suggests the sea is "very safe" - I would say that you need to keep a VERY close eye on children though as the current is extremly strong and although you can walk out a long way and still only be up to an adult waist you really "feel the pull"

Dont be put off if you arrive at Avra's car park and see 20 or so quads and associated riders on the beach. I think there must be a number of organised tours who use it as s stop off - they will be gone within the hour!

For a really good look of the beach have a peek at the CPA property site and take a peek at a part built white bungalow for sale at 132 thousand euros - click on the pictures to see the full beauty!

Hope you enjoy it as much as us.

You talked me into it, will visit the beach, I travel past that way twice a week so next time will make an effort to "hang a left" will also sample the sea food (love it). Every year find new and exciting places to visit, making Kavos keep its well known reputation as the ass end of corfu justified, just a shame I live there for the season

Hi All,

In case anyone wasn't aware, there is a guide to ALL of Corfu's wonderful beaches, north, south, east and west.

It can be found on the one and only Corfu map featured on this website.  So many people are unaware of the gorgeous, long sandy beaches of the south and south-west.

There are small beaches at and near Skala nearby Ag. Mattheos.  Prassoudi is a little further down, followed by Kanouli and Stalachto, then Alonaki.

Further south, Hlomos-Issos beach is actually on the opposite side of the island to the village of Hlomos!, a little further north than the lovely Agios Georgios.  Continuing south there is Marathias beach, then Santa Barbara.

Further south still are Vitalades, Kritika, and Kanula beach.  Kanula is particularly long, and beautifully uncrowded.

All of these miles and miles of wonderful sandy beaches are within easy reach of Ag Georgios South, especially if you have transport.  They are one of Corfu's greatest secrets.

All of these beaches, plus 60 something more are to be found on my map's index, with references showing where they are, and the type of beach.

The link to order the map is on the left of most pages, taking you to an order form on the AAWF site.  I look forward to hearing from all you beach lovers (and Ag Georgious South fans).

Stephan

Hi Joanna,

Thank you so much for your time and trouble taken for that full description, and your recommendations. I think I'm probably not the only one who's thanking you, either.

My children are now, thankfully, far too old ( late teens ) for me to have much say in what they get up to. That said, they don't regard themselves as being too old to have a holiday at fathers expense !

As for that bungalow, I'm not sure I want to talk about it. Six matching numbers, please, please, please, soon.

Thank you also Mapman. I think you've done everybody a great service with that link which I will probably bookmark.

Have great holidays everybody.

                                Best regards to all,

                                          FredF.
