We are going to Greece this year but are trying Skiathos. We are taking two 17 year old beach bums and it was their choice!
That said we went to Puerto Pollensa in Majorca last year and I would endorse everything Kathy 3 says. Both accomodation and food were better priced. What it didn't have was the character of Corfu and Greece generally and it is that which draws us back.
For people on a budget and looking at it solely in terms of value for money, however, there was really no comparison between the immaculate flat we stayed at in Majorca and the higher priced and rather shabby studios (which had been recommended by some site members) in Corfu. I suspect the problem is that when we like a place we tend to don rose tinted spectacles. Perhaps for some the 1980s feel is part of the attraction. We will keep coming back. Others won't.

We went to Turkey last May for our daughters wedding, not through choice! We stayed all inclusive with the rest of the guests and have to say for them it was very good value for money, for us flying Kef to Athens, Athens to Izmir was around 170 euro and that was fine. The hotel itself for four nights cost us more than the UK group paid for two weeks including their flights!
If we decided to go outside the hotel the prices were actually dearer than Kefalonia, Mousaka at 10 euros etc.
Everytime we parked the car we had to pay, the nature reserves, just about everything you could be charged for as an extra we were charged!
Also the constant pressure to buy things etc got on our nerves! We have to admit though that the place was spotless, the beaches were so clean, no rubbish anywhere even in the back streets!
They have tourism down to a fine art which benefits the country no doubt but give us Greece anytime but then look at the problems here...for certain Greece could take a lesson or two!

Doing our bit Tricia, having my 50th in Corfu, lots of family and friends flying to Corfu all staying in the local Hotel, where the party will be held.
For some of them it will be the first time, others are seasoned visitors.
Everybody welcome

We tried to do our bit in encouraging friends to Corfu but it backfired on us! They didn't enjoy it at all, sorry Bruce they went to your beloved Kassiopi (which we also love), but did not see it how we do, they took their four daughters plus boyfriends and said it was too quiet, too expensive and got fed up with the Greeks complaining how hard it was for them and nagging at them why were the Brits not coming any more! as they had spent all this money doing places up! They will not be returning or recommending.
Agree with some other posters, personally think tourism came very easily to Corfu for a long time and the Greeks had quite an easy time of it, they are not used to having to do more or work harder to promote themselves.
We love Corfu and will be back but we also got a bit tired of the moaning last year. Also the price of our accommodation has nearly doubled in the last few years and priced us out of it! I could go on sadly

Hi Gillyp..I have only ever recommended Kassiopi to one couple and they never stopped moaning about the place, things like music was too loud when they were in bed at 9:30 or the wall socket didn't work which was behind a wardrobe.
Clever people this couple they would moan so much about a apartment that the TO's would move them from something they had paid £200 for to a apartment costing twice as much.
Mind you they moaned where ever they went in the world.

Another great thread though Trisa with some great points being made. Just hope that things will improve for them this season.
I know speaking to our friend in Sidari he says he has made a few improvements to his building and land so looking forward to seeing what has been done this year and he has said this year is looking good bookings wise.
