Off we went for our Saturday night Jaunt to Corfu Town from A.G.
Arrived excited to see our friend in his little Kafenon.
Shock Horror Where is our little Kafenon where is our Friend It was now a Bookstore
Went of very disappointed and very upset had something happened to our Friend. Why was it a book store now.
Found another little Taverna in the back streets sat there worried, was our friend ok. I know he was getting on in Age. Had to find out.
Back we went a few shops away I found a Lady who could speak very good English spoke to her - what shop she said - so I dragged her by the arm and showed her the shop.
Relief our Friend had sold up and took retirement, he was OK and enjoying himself in retirement.
Have a very long and happy Retirement my Friend

Hello Viv,
I found the story about your search for your Friend touching. One because you were concerned enough to make enquiries about his welfare. Good news that he is happily enjoying his well-earned retirement.
Secondly I am 'touched' by the thought that we would have a real problem in future if every kafenon that closed down turned into a bookshop!!!!!!!!

It was a fantastic place to sit as well. As you say he was a real gentleman.
When we were last there it was a Friday Evening and we sat down for a glass of Wine and he bought out a lovely plate filled with Olives, Tomatoes, Cucumber and other things and we had a bottle of Wine and it came to about €4.50. The local men were inside playing some Card game or something and we just sat there outside watching everyone walking up and down the street. Fantastic place.
