Hi C4owner
As I said before they don't really tell you on the baggage allowance page, but when you select your flight you can change the number of hold bags from two to one which updates the kgs from 40 to 32.

It seems to me that you can have one case in hold luggage for two people up to 32kg, which is the Health and Safety limit designated by the airlines. However, as it is more than the normal 20kg per person, you will then pay excess charges for the extra 12kg. They're not going to give you an extra 12kg for nothing.

I'm afraid I don't agree... they do have to give the extra for nothing as ordinarily 2 people are entitled to 40kg - so by reducing to one bag (with the max weight at 32kg).. they will be taking less than their full allowance.. it's not excess baggage!!
Let me explain what I personally did this year with easyjet: We are a party of 4 people, so we had a weight allowance of 80kg. To save money we decided to only take 3 hold bags... however we still had the same weight allowance of 80kg between us.
So we took 3 cases - all well over 20kg's...... as long as no single suitcase was over the limit of 32kg.... we spread our 80kg allowance over just 3 bags.
Obviously if there are only 2 of of you, you can't spread the 40kg, by just taking the one case - as rules say up to 32kg.
This saves 'space' in the hold... but weight limits are still the same.
One person is also able to pay extra & take for example 3 suitcases, as long as the total weight doesn't exceed 20kg (pointless unless you are transporting polystyrene.. but it's an example!)... you are paying for the extra space, not weight - if you go over the weight allowance, then they'll charge excess baggage.
So in my opinion 2 people will not be charged for a 32kg bag... just be careful it doesn't exceed the max 32kg.... but this is just my opinion based on our flight earlier this year, to be absolutely certain you should maybe contact easyjet.

I am glad I asked this question, as on reading the varied replies it is clear that the information on the Easyjet website is open to different interpretation. FetaOlive, thank you very much for your reply, it has confirmed what I thought. It may be that just as increasing the amount of bags does not increase the weight allowance, decreasing the amount of bags allows for an increase in weight. Yes, it does seem strange. I would telephone Easyjet to ask for the answer, but cannot find a number anywhere on their site.

Thanks orchard,
It really is difficult trying to check out details on the easyJet website.
Look forward to hearing what wishiwas gains from the phone call.

Does anyone EVER consider the baggage handler? All day long he is humping luggage around, on and off. As far as I am concerned I would not think of exceeding 20kg.
