We are just back from Corfu. I had a conversation with a restaurant owner about the smoking ban which comes in on July 1st. He claims to have read the legislation carefully and says that it is not a full smoking ban like the one that we have to suffer from here. Apparently establishments with a floor space of under seventy square metres can choose whether to go smoking or non-smoking. Establishments over seventy square metres can allocate 25% of space for smokers. He seemed to know what he was talking about. Perhaps Nathan can enlighten us?

I"ve just moved to Spain, and it is a similar situation here. It"s pretty free and easy if you want to smoke, and the locals say its just a "sop" to the EU.

To keep everyone happy and sane, please could I request that there is no discussion regarding the merits or otherwise of any full or partial smoking ban.
Thank you, we appreciate your co-operation.

According to the 'Athens in your pocket' booklet, you're quite right. To quote, "The owners of establishments under 70 sqm will be free to decide whether theirs will be a smoking place or not!"
