Shell98 I have fond memories of Weston Super Mare and nearby Brean. It used to be like a second home to me as my parents had caravans at Brean and we were often there for school holidays and weekends. I may be happy in Corfu now but it doesn't seem that long ago that I was growing up in the Midlands looking forward to my next visit to Weston.
I think we all need a dream however good it is where we are don't we?

Chilly and windy up here on the Teesdale moors but its dry so thats great.
Last couple of days have been sunny though and guess what
Wintry showers and frost forecast later in the week!
Bought all my flower seeds and some shrubs today so will wait a week before doing anything with them and see what happens.

Hi all
The pier was burnt down last summer, so it has just had approved the new design, to be honest I am so lost with Weston, it could be such a great place but people are reluctant to change.
Vaughan you have obviously made the big move, how did you do it and where did your motivation come from.
luv to all

I'm gutted to hear about Weston Pier. I hope the new design reflects it's former beauty.
To answer your question, we'd thought about moving to Corfu for a couple of years because we were becoming more and more discontent with our jobs and life in general in the UK. It was feeling more like an existence than a life. When my Father died in 2006, there didn't seem to be any reason to remain in the UK. We discussed the matter at length and became determined to give it a go and set about making firm plans and moved here last July.
We had lots of advice from this site and rightly people advised us of the problems and pitfalls, but we have no regrets so far. We don't know if we will be able to stay. It depends how much we can earn through the season and if we can get repeat work next year. We haven't burnt our bridges so we have nothing to worry about. The way I see it, whether we can stay or not we've still had a life changing, wonderful experience so far and it's not over yet.
It hasn't all been easy but we've learnt to adopt a more relaxed (Greek) attitude to life. It is true that life is simpler if harder out here. Having just been through our first winter we've thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Island in a different light but I'm glad summer is on the way.
We have been letting our house out in the UK but even that has turned into a problem. The house has developed condensation problems and we have had to release our tenant from the contract (because their son has Asthma) while we sort the problem out. This means the additional cost of flights back while we have no rent coming in so our savings are taking a hammering. Life is always ready to throw new challenges just when you think everything is going well, but for now we're still smiling and we have no intention of giving up.
Good luck Following your dreams,
All the best
Vaughan
