The fish restaurants in Boukari are a gourmet's delight and the area is virtually unspoilt.

Of course there are many beautiful resorts in the south but I still prefere the small resorts, Not the ultimate Greek inland villages, but the small quiet resorts, often where many Greeks visit. I can well understand the reps in Casiopi selling the bus trips around the north or Corfu town. The views around the north in places like Palio and the north east coast road from a coach are amazing. There are similar views in the south in places like Scala but I don't think it possible to get a coach along this road. If I were to organise a bus trip anywhere I would take people to the town hall above Kalami, bella vista above Palio and then take them down the middle of the island down the road that goes past the quarries and then through Skripero back to the town. The views are amazing as you can see the sea on both sides of the island at this point. If I could get the coach up there and be able to turn it round I would go to Afrionis on the west which has no beach as it is too high above the sea as I believe this is one of the best villages on the island and a great place to drop every off for a two hour lunch.

Trips to Corfu town can be booked anywhere on the island and are very popular for shopping trips. Just have a coffee on the Liston and people watch. It may cost a few quid but it's well worth it.

  Brian,

Wholeheartedly agree with you. There is life south of Corfu Town. Having a second home in that area and having explored most of Corfu by car in the last 20 years or so the South has so much to offer. We love it there. The people are so friendly. The vast sandy beaches on the west coast with watersports in tourist season and quiet almost deserted ones that we ourselves prefer. not forgetting Korission Lake. The east coast with Moraitika and Messongi lovely family resorts and the beautiful quieter Boukari and Petriti. Very good restaurants and tavernas to eat in. We explore the area by walking as much as possible and are trying to promote the area with our web site that we have set up as a hobby and add more to it every time we visit.

For anybody that maybe interested in looking at our website http://www.zizyphus.co.uk/

That is a fantastic website!

I love the south of the island, it is so gently beautiful.  Rightly or wrongly, I personally hope it never gets developed more than it is now.

We stayed at the Marbella Hotel in St John's a few years ago. It said St John's in the brochure but according to the Hotel's website it's in Agios Ioannis. When I tell you it's built on top of the big tunnel on the main Corfu road just North of Maraitika you'll know where I mean. Anyway, not much to do at night time outside of the Hotel but a lovely beach with a couple of Tavernas nearby and only a short taxi ride or 20 minutes walk into Moraitika.
