St.George South, and the whole of the South-west coast of the island is a fabulous location. I've never really wanted to go anywhere else on Corfu, and for me there are few places to equal or beat it.

One could always buy a beach mat, then you can mould the substratum ( i.e. the sand ) to fit your personal body contours  ........or just float on a Li-Lo offshore  .......can't help with German holiday magazines though.

FABULOUS WONDERFUL and soo picturesque
thats my rant for the south.
I was introduced to the south about 2 years ago and loved it so much, bought a house there.
Dead easy to get from one coast to another, nice easy to drive roads(loved the north too but the roads are a bit scary for me) and we find eating out a little cheaper than the north.
we have a place on the Petriti/agios nicolaos border and love it there
I like pebbly beaches as well and Notos is lovely as is Kalivioti ,Boukari and melissi.
if you look in my photos, there area few of examples of the area.
There are a lot of German people in the south that holiday there and have houses and we have found more greek people speak german than english, but everyone manages to understand each other.
we met a lovely couple when we were looking for a house (we couldnt afford it unfortunately)
I get the impression that they-like me prefer quieter ,more undeveloped places.
ladies on donkeys in traditional costumes abound here!!
its great-come and see!!

Once had a girlfriend who lived between Whaley Bridge and Chapel en Le Frith. From memory, liked that area better than south Corfu, however was only 19 at the time so may have had different priorities. Seriously though, the North East is much more attractive and laid back.

I for one much prefer the south.   My late Corfiot husband came from the north but when it came to building a house we decided (years ago) to head south.   I now live in and love the south, protected by the mighty Aghi Deka.   Give me the beautiful sandy south-west beaches over the pebbles of the north any day. Halikouna/Issos just have to be the best beaches in Corfu and this is because they are protected and no exploitation has been allowed there (so take water with you when you go for a swim!). Paramonas and Ag. Barbara pretty good too. The hill villages are amazing and the whole of the south is so much less developed and spoilt.
